    Dear Parents/Carers,

The end of term is now only three week's away and we are already busy preparing for September.  We are praying for a "normal" year with no closures, and hope that the letter you received from the Director of Education, helps you to understand that we are still working under strict operational guidance.

However, we are planning for best scenarios where we can, and governors feel that we can safely run our whole school in "pods" again from September.  This means that we will not be splitting year 5 into two separate "podlets" and running the whole of Pod PryCop as one.  The advantages of this are clear.  Pupils will work with a range of pupils and staff across a number of learning areas (workshops).   There will continue be registration (kinship) time in separate groups, but pupils move around, according to tasks.  This is how we worked before Covid and both pupils and staff benefitted greatly in terms of both well-being and progress.

If the data and public health situation declines, we will of course make the decision to revert back to "podlets".  Let's all hope this will not be the case.  Here are the Pods for next Year:

    • Pod Pili Pala (Nursery) - Mrs Gosney & Mrs Parry
    • Pod Pengwin (YR & Y1) - Mrs Marchant, Miss Walters, Mrs Williams & Mrs Blackmore
    • Pod Pysgodyn (Y2 & Y3) - Mrs Jones, Mr Goremano & Mrs Morgan
    • Pod PryCop (Y4, Y5 & Y6) - Mrs Morgan, Miss Colwill, Mrs Rees & Miss Weatherley

Please do not worry about your child's transition to their new pod.  We will be making sure all the children know exactly what will happen on their first day in September.   You will receive "Welcome Videos" from the staff to watch with your child, and of course we will be starting the term with a launch day to start our whole school, top-secret, topic.   Here are some other headlines for the week:-

    1. Sports Day (Week of 28th June) - Last year we had to have a virtual sports day.  Well, this year the pupils can have their own sports day in their contact bubbles.  A dedicated video channel will be set up on our website for you to view the events.  Your Pod staff will let you know what your child will need.    Here are the days allocated to each Pod:-

Monday 28th June - Pod Pili Pala

Tuesday 29th June - Pod Pengwin (am) & Pod Pysgodyn (pm)

Wednesday 30th June  - Pod PryCop Coch (am)

Thursday 1st July -  Pod PryCop Melyn (am)

If there is bad weather - we will amend days and pod staff will email you.  Please send pupils in house colours and trainers on these days.  Sport's Day T-Shirts are available from the office.  Please email if you need to know what colour house your child is in.  Please note that any t-shirt in that colour can be worn.

    2. Summer Raffle -   We are still collecting prizes for the summer raffle.  Each class will raffle a class hamper, and we need your donations to make this a success.   As you know we are unable to raise funds through a summer fayre, so this raffle will support the school to further develop its environment to support pupil well-being.  Please send in any of the following items by July 2nd.  We will need to leave all items for 48 hours before creating the hampers.    Examples of donations:-  Bottles (wrapped for safety), Sweets, Toiletries, Summer themed gifts!  Thank you for purchasing our raffle tickets.  We have plenty more available, so if you would like more, please contact the office.

    Have a great weekend,

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We have been making the most of the wonderful weather this week! Please remember to follow us on @Llanrhidianp on Twitter to keep up to date with your pod antics.

With only 4 weeks to go, staff are busy preparing for an exciting end of term.  Thank you to all those who have attended parents' consultations.  We have had great difficulty fitting everyone in on the phone (having only 2 phone lines) so if we are in the same restricted position in the Autumn Term, we will need to ask for these to be on Teams.  This is a great way to hold meetings, and really is as simple as logging in to your child's hwb page and clicking a link.    Please embrace this technology - because it really is the way forward.  Here are this week's headlines:-

    3. End of Year Reports - Teachers are currently completing the pupils' individual reports which will be available at the end of term by logging in to your child's HWB account. These reports will have show progress against previously set targets.  Your child's new teachers will be aware of your child's learning and next step so that we can "hit the road running" in September.  But please encourage learning through the holidays where possible, especially reading and tables practice.  Our online programmes will be available right through the holidays.  (Perfect for rainy days).

    4. North Gower Food Hub  - This food bank has been set up for those in financial difficulties living within the North Gower area, (no vouchers needed).  It is registered with the Swansea Council food banks and is available to anybody who needs it.

Open: Tuesday and Friday mornings. Food parcels can be collected from the food bank by appointment only.  Social distancing rules apply.  Emergency food parcels can be arranged.  Contact Gloria Hughes / Jo Gooding 07989214487 or Email northgowerfoodbank@gmail.com  For more information click here

    Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been wonderful to see all the children back after half term, and returning to a school full of flowers and plants has really lifted everyone's spirits.  Thank you so much.  The rainbow benches are on order and we can't wait for them to arrive.  We also have some exciting plans afoot which I will share with you when they are confirmed.

It is so important that our environment is bright, cheery and supports the learners in both their well-being and their progress.  Despite the challenges this year, the school has never looked so good.  So thank you again for all your support.

    Please see this week's headlines:-

    1. Sports Day (Week of 28th June) - Last year we had to have a virtual sports day.  Well, this year the pupils can have their own sports day in their contact bubbles.  Teachers are planning these events and will let you know which day they will be racing.  A dedicated video channel will be set up on our website for you to view the events.  Your Pod staff will let you know what your child will need.  Sport's Day T-Shirts are available from the office.  Please email if you need to know what colour house your child is in.

    2. Reading - Lockdowns have undoubtedly disrupted our pupils' learning.  We are striving to give our pupils every opportunity to progress in all aspects of the curriculum, but are asking for your help with reading.   Research shows that reading actual books  increases brain connectivity, vocabulary, comprehension, empathy and, most importantly, reduces stress and improves wellbeing.  We have unlimited books for you to borrow.  These are called CAPER books and are available for all pupils.  Please contact your Pod staff if you would like your child to bring home more reading material.  If you will help us raise the children's love for reading by ensuring your child practices regularly,  it will have a massive impact upon their progress in school.  We have a number of successful strategies to "teach" reading, but regular practice is what makes all the difference.

    3. Summer Raffle - We are now collecting prizes for the summer raffle. We will be sending raffle tickets home next week draw the raffle on July 9th.   Examples of donations:-  Bottles (wrapped for safety), Sweets, Toiletries, Summer themed gifts!

    4. Pod Pry Cop are going to be selling their Enterprise Challenge entry fruit smoothies next week.  Based on the weather we are aiming to go for Wednesday the 16th June from 3pm from Siop Ceirios and the Junior yard.

One Podlet will be running each stall.
