      Dear Parents and Carers,

      We have had a wonderful first week back at school! The pupils have settled brilliantly and are absolutely loving their new topic, "Attenborough's Animals".

      Monday's STEM event was a huge success. It was fantastic to see pupils and parents working together to create such imaginative land, sea and air creatures. Some of the materials that mysteriously appeared from parents' pockets certainly helped to enhance the models! 😊 Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the event so memorable.

      This week, we also welcomed a visitor from the Local Authority. She was highly impressed by the pupils' positive attitudes towards learning and, in particular, the independence demonstrated across the school. It was wonderful to hear such positive feedback about our learners.

      Our ongoing focus on developing lifelong learning skills is clearly paying off. We are seeing growing resilience, thoughtful reflection and increasing confidence in learning right across the school. We are incredibly proud of the progress our pupils are making and look forward to an exciting term ahead.

      MCAS Attendance and Absence Reporting

      Thank you to everyone who has signed up to MCAS. We are delighted to see so many families using the app to stay connected with school.

      Through MCAS, you can now view your child's attendance record and report your child as sick, notify us of an absence, or request an authorised absence for a holiday. This has now replaced our previous online absence and holiday forms.

      Please note that when you submit an absence request through MCAS, you may receive a notification within the app confirming that your request has been approved for processing. This does not mean that the absence has been authorised. Absence requests are still reviewed by the school, and a separate email will be sent confirming whether the absence has been authorised or unauthorised.

      As a school, we place great importance on attendance, as regular attendance plays a key role in children's learning and wellbeing. Holiday absences will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances and where a pupil's attendance is above 95%. When requesting a holiday absence, please include your destination in the reason for absence section.

      As MCAS is a new service for both parents and staff, please bear with us while we continue to learn and develop our use of the system. We appreciate your patience and support during this transition.

      Welcome Back!

      We hope you all had a wonderful summer filled with fun, laughter and special family memories. It has been fantastic to welcome everyone back, and the new school year has already got off to a great start with our exciting Launch Day activities.

      Over the summer holidays, our staff team has been working incredibly hard to enhance our learning environments and create even more opportunities for our children to thrive. We are delighted to unveil several new and exciting areas around the school, designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning.

      One of our most exciting developments is our beautiful new Nursery classroom. This thoughtfully designed space has been purposefully created to support Early Years play and development, providing an engaging environment where our youngest learners can explore, imagine and build the foundations for future success. We cannot wait to see the wonderful adventures and learning journeys that will take place there this year.

          

      This week also saw the launch of our Autumn Term topic, "Attenborough's Animal Kingdom", and what a fantastic start it has been! The children were captivated by an inspiring performance from Bigfoot Drama Productions, who brought the remarkable life of Sir David Attenborough to life and helped us learn more about his passion for the natural world. The day sparked lots of curiosity and excitement about the incredible animals and habitats we will be exploring over the coming months.

      We would also like to say a huge thank you to Animal Cwtch, who truly wowed both children and staff with their amazing animal visitors. Our pupils had the unforgettable opportunity to meet and hold a variety of fascinating creatures. There were smiles, squeals of excitement and lots of brave faces as children got up close to the animals. We still can't believe just how squishy a snake was!

      As we continue our learning journey together, we would like to remind families about our Tea Time STEM Event next Monday. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to join their children in school and work together on creative STEM challenges. We hope you can join us for an afternoon of exploration, problem-solving and fun.

      Over the past year, we have listened carefully to feedback from our families. As a result, we will be focusing on providing more memorable learning experiences and fun trips for our pupils, while reducing the number of school events we hold. Our aim is to make the events we do organise even more meaningful, enjoyable and well-planned for everyone involved.

      We are also excited to continue working closely with our Pont Rheni Parent Group. Their support and ideas help strengthen our school community and create the very best opportunities for our children. If you would like to share your thoughts or ideas, we encourage you to join their next meeting and get involved.

      At Llanrhidian Primary School, we believe the best outcomes happen when school and families work together. Thank you for your continued support as we look forward to another happy and successful year of learning.

      A Lovely Way to End the School Year

      We are delighted to share some wonderful news with our school community as we come to the end of another fantastic year.

      Miss Walters has welcomed her beautiful baby daughter, Delilah, into the world. Mother and baby are doing well, and we couldn't be happier for them.

      On behalf of everyone at Llanrhidian Primary School, we would like to send Miss Walters and her family our warmest congratulations and lots of love as they begin this exciting new chapter together.

      What a lovely way to end the school year – another little member joining the Team Llanrhidian family! 💕👶

      Thank You for a Fantastic Year

      As we reach the end of another successful school year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents, families and friends for your continued support. Many of you go above and beyond to help our school community, enabling us to provide the very best opportunities for our pupils despite the financial pressures and budget challenges that all schools currently face.

      Llanrhidian Primary School is a truly unique place, and this year has been another year of growth, innovation and improvement. Working together, we have continued to develop exciting opportunities that enrich learning and help our children thrive.

      Over the past year, we have:

      • Developed Y Goedwig as an exciting outdoor learning environment.
      • Planned and progressed our innovative Estuary Education programme, making the most of our unique local environment.
      • Enhanced opportunities in STEM and Design Technology.
      • Expanded our sustainable learning activities, including growing our own vegetables and herbs to be used in the school caffi.
      • Established Pont Rhieni (Parent Bridge) to strengthen communication and collaboration between parents and staff.
      • Improved the quality and range of school trips and enrichment opportunities.
      • Introduced Stay and Play sessions for our Nursery families while we await official childcare registration.
      • Begun developing a dedicated, purpose-built area for Nursery learners.
      • Enhanced the learning environment in Pysgodyn, creating a larger space with more accessible resources for children.

      These are just some of the developments we have achieved together this year.

      Looking ahead, we are excited about the many plans already underway for next year. As we continue to review and refine our curriculum, listen carefully to your views, and respond to the ideas and aspirations of our pupils, we remain fully committed to maintaining the high standards that our school community expects and deserves.

      We would also like to wish our Year 6 pupils every success as they embark on the next stage of their educational journey. You have been wonderful ambassadors for Llanrhidian Primary School and we are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved. We look forward to hearing about your future successes.

      Finally, please note that we will be moving away from our current Instagram platform and will instead be using Seesaw to provide more personalised sharing of your child's learning. However, we will continue to post updates and celebrate school life through Journey of a Gower School. We would be grateful if you could follow and share this platform to help showcase the wonderful experiences, achievements and opportunities that make our school so special.

      Getting Ready for September! 🌟

      We have had another fantastic week at school as we begin getting excited for September! The children who will be moving to new pods next year had the opportunity to visit their new classes, meet their new teachers, and explore their new learning spaces. There was lots of excitement, curiosity, and smiling faces as the children began to imagine all the adventures and learning that await them next year.

      The feedback from the children was overwhelmingly positive, with many leaving their visits feeling confident, happy, and eager to get started. We are incredibly proud of how maturely and enthusiastically they embraced this important step in their school journey.

      A huge thank you to the parents who came along to visit the new classrooms and meet the teachers in Pod PryCop and Pod Pysgodyn. It was wonderful to welcome so many families into school and share this exciting transition with you. Your support plays such an important role in helping the children feel confident and prepared for the year ahead.

      September is just around the corner, and we can't wait to see what the next chapter brings! 📚✨🎉

      🌍 Mr Colourful's Journey to the Wonders of the World! 🌍

      On Monday, we are holding our 'Sharecase', where we will be celebrating all the fantastic work the children have completed during Mr Colourful's Journey to the Wonders of the World.

      We are looking forward to welcoming you all to this special event, where the children's creativity, learning and hard work will be on display. From famous landmarks to fascinating cultures, the children have travelled the globe through their learning and can't wait to share their discoveries with you.

      Forget Phileas Fogg's 80-day adventure! In just a few hours, you'll have the opportunity to travel around the world, visiting some of the most incredible wonders on Earth through the eyes of our talented learners.

      We can't wait to see you there and celebrate this amazing journey together! ✈️🗺️🌎✨

      Working Together to Share Your Child's Learning 📚✨

      You talked, and we listened.

      Many parents told us they would like more opportunities to see and celebrate their children's learning and progress throughout the year. As a result, we have reviewed and strengthened the ways we share your child's achievements with you.

      From next year, we will be holding two Sharecase events each year during the Spring and Summer terms, giving families regular opportunities to see the wonderful learning taking place across the school. We will continue to host an Open Pod event in the Autumn term, allowing parents and carers to spend time in their child's learning environment and gain a deeper understanding of their experiences in school.

      These events will complement the improvements we have already made to our reporting arrangements, including increasing parent meetings to one each term and continuing to provide a written report in the Summer term.

      We are also excited to introduce Seesaw, which will replace Instagram as our platform for sharing snapshots of your child's learning. Seesaw will provide a more secure and personalised way for families to stay connected with what their child is doing in school and celebrate their achievements throughout the year.

      Please look out for an email next Monday containing your Seesaw login details and information on how to get started.
