All food and drink prepared for the children during school time is expected to follow Swansea County Council healthy eating guidelines.
During break times we have a ‘fruit only’ policy. Children may bring a piece of fruit from home to enjoy during Relax and Refuel. We work hard to promote the health and well-being of the children and staff at school.
We ask parents of children who bring a packed lunch to school to make every effort to ensure that the packed lunch contains a healthy eating and drinking selection. This is consistent with our Health Promoting Policy.
All pupils in Reception to Year 6 in Swansea will be offered free school meals from September 2024.
Families from reception to Year 6 do not need to apply for the school meal offer as they will be automatically enrolled at their school. However, families on low income may be eligible for other benefits such as school uniform and money off school trips. In order to assess eligibility for this, an application for free school meals can be made here.
Parents who are confirmed eligible for free school meals still need to apply separately for the school uniform grant.
Further information can also be found on the gov.wales/get help with school costs webpage.
The primary school lunch consists of a freshly cooked two course meal with a drink and this is provided at every school.
These meals meet the nutritional guidelines as required by the Welsh Government's Appetite for Life and it is our aim to make these attractive and appetising to children. There is a three weekly menu which is circulated via schools to all children in the autumn term outlining the choice. School meals can play a very important part in teaching children social skills and introducing them to different eating experiences.
Feeding children good school food is a responsibility we take very seriously.
