Attendance plays a crucial role in every child’s learning and wellbeing 📚✨. Throughout the school year, we monitor pupils’ attendance to make sure they are able to enjoy their learning, make progress, and feel confident in school. We kindly ask for your support in helping your child attend regularly and on time 🙏😊. By working together, we can give them the best possible opportunities to succeed 🌟.

Positive Attention at Home 🏡💬
Children seek attention to feel connected ❤️. They’ll take negative attention if positive isn’t available. Think of them holding a rope 🧵—every time you react emotionally, you “pick it up” and reinforce the behaviour.
Do pick up the rope by: 👍💛
Giving specific positive noticing e.g. “Thanks for helping so gently.” 😊 “I can see how hard you’re trying.” 🌈
Offering warm, brief connection during positive moments 🤗
Don’t pick up the rope by: 🚫😣
Arguing, lecturing, or reacting emotionally
Getting pulled into debates or explanations

Happy Friday! We hope you’re finding our new blog useful! Our aim is to make it a helpful space that signposts you to upcoming events, shares school news, and gives you a little glimpse into everyday life here in Llanrhidian.
Over the coming terms, we’ll also be sharing more about our journey to becoming an emotionally safe school. This approach helps children feel understood, supported, and ready to learn. It focuses on building responsibility, not shame, so pupils can think, “I made a mistake, and I can learn from it,” rather than feeling that they don’t belong.
This doesn’t lower expectations; it strengthens them through clarity, consistency, and support. And as always, the message to every child is: “You belong here, and you can improve with support and practice.”
We’re looking forward to involving families along the way and sharing simple, practical strategies that help both at home and at school.

Join us on Friday 13th March at 2pm for our Pod Pysgodyn Percussion Party! The children are excited to share the rhythms and percussion skills they’ve been learning.

Socks Needed 🧦
The British weather has left lots of children with wet feet, and we’ve now used up all our spare socks in school. Please could each child bring a spare pair of socks in their bag each day. If you have any clean, good-quality socks your child has outgrown, we’d be very grateful for donations too. Thank you for your support! 💙
Please can you bring in any small to medium glass jars for our growing project this term. Diolch yn fawr.

Y6 Literacy Day only: Monday February 9th
We are delighted to invite your child, along with other Year 6 pupils to take part in an exciting literacy event hosted by author Daniel Morden at Gowerton School. This event has been designed to inspire pupils’ creativity, develop their storytelling skills, and give them the opportunity to meet a famous published author.
⏰ Time: 9:00am – 12:30pm
Please provide a packed lunch for your child.
Our Pry Cop pupils have been invited to attend the Black History Cymru 365 Swansea Launch Music Concert—a celebration of music, culture, and the contributions of Black communities in Wales.
Event Details

⏰ Time: 10:00am – 2:30pm
📍 Venue: Swansea Arena
This exciting event will feature live performances and talks about Black History in Wales.
- Cost: £3.50 per child
- Payment & Consent: Please pay and complete the consent form via iPay.
- Packed Lunch: Indicate on the consent form if you would like your child to receive a school packed lunch.
- Deadline: Please complete payment and consent by 5th February so the kitchen staff can arrange food orders.

Pod Pengwin: I would get Mrs Chafey to do all the tidying up in Penwgin land and Mrs Marchant could come and tidy the house!
Pod Pysgodyn: We would make Mr Hayward do the Cha Cha Slide... but he would probably do that anyway! Miss Walters could do the macarena!
Pod Pry Cop: Mrs Archard could bring me some goodies - Walkers chicken crisps and Mr Morgan could make me a nice J2O.
