Attendance & Appointments Update

We continue to work closely with our Education Welfare Officer to monitor attendance and punctuality. Although whole‑school attendance has improved, we have recently seen an increase in children arriving late or being collected early.

While we understand that appointments are sometimes unavoidable, frequent lateness or early collections can affect learning and may raise concerns.

If we have concerns about your child’s attendance, we will request evidence of any appointments (such as hospital letters, digital confirmations or other proof).

Thank you for your support in helping your child make the most of their learning time. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

How We Support Children’s Emotional Wellbeing

In our school, we focus on creating a warm, supportive environment where children feel safe, valued and confident. Here are the positive actions we take, and that families can use too, to help children thrive emotionally and socially.

🌱 Building Emotional Safety

  • We use calm, clear language that helps children understand what will happen next.
Example: “It’s time to tidy up now, thank you.”
  • We create predictable routines so children know what to expect and feel secure.
  • We model respectful, steady behaviour so children learn how to regulate their own emotions.

🌟 Encouraging Positive Behaviour

  • We focus on guiding children towards what to do rather than what not to do.
  • We celebrate effort, kindness and moments of resilience.
  • We help children learn problem‑solving skills so they feel capable and confident.

🧠 Supporting Neurodiverse & Emotional Needs

  • We use approaches that work for all learners, including those who may need extra emotional or sensory support.
  • We create calm spaces and safe routines to help children refocus when they need a moment.

✨ Helping Children Feel Confident

  • We give clear expectations in simple, friendly language.
  • We break tasks into manageable steps so children experience success.
  • We nurture independence by giving children choices and opportunities to take responsibility.

Annwyl Rhieni a Gofalwyr,

What a glorious week it’s been in Llanrhidian with yet more sunshine. We started the week with our brilliant Eisteddfod, where a sea of red filled the school hall and the smell of leeks drifted through the corridors. Thank you to everyone who supported our pupils with the competitions and the dressing up, it's been a fantastic week, and we still have two more events today. We’re looking forward to dancing together in our twmpath this morning and welcoming you to our annual Marchnad Dydd Gŵyl Dewi this afternoon.

This will be my final blog for a little while as I hand over the keyboard and begin my maternity leave. I want to say a heartfelt thank you for all your kind well wishes, drop off check ins, and the lovely cards and gifts for baby Archard from staff, pupils and families. It’s such a privilege to be part of such a caring community. We’ll be sure to pop into Caffi Cynefin when she’s ready...after all, where else would we be on a Thursday morning?

I’ll leave the final word to our wonderful pupils: keep being the best you can be, and I’ll see you all soon.

Have a fabulous weekend,

Mrs Archard and #TeamLlanrhidian

The British weather has left lots of children with wet feet, and we’ve now used up all our spare socks in school. Please could each child bring a spare pair of socks in their bag each day. If you have any clean, good-quality socks your child has outgrown, we’d be very grateful for donations too. Thank you for your support! 💙
