Subordinate conjunctions and Clauses

LO:Use simple, compound, and complex sentence structures for emphasis and effect.

Lets thinking of

  • “I went to the park.” Makes sense on its own → main clause

  •
  • “Because it was raining…” Doesn’t make sense → subordinate clause

We can think of these clauses as a 'Boss clause' and a 'Helper Clause'

Let's look at these two sentences.

I ran home.

Because it was raining.

Which is the main clause and which is the subordinating clause?

A subordinate conjunction is a joining word that introduces a helper clause.
