    Now...

    The fun bit!

    Now create!

Work in groups of 3 - 4 to create your designs!

This week, we will begin designing the outside of our boxes to bring our moving animal creations to life!
You have already built a cam mechanism inside your box. Now, you need to design the outside so that it shows your animal in its natural habitat.

    Your Tasks

    1. Paper mâché your box 📰

    • Cover the outside of your box with paper mâché.
    • Make sure the paper covers the surfaces neatly.
    • Leave your box to dry completely.

    2. Plan your design ✏️

    • Decide which animal you are going to create.
    • Draw a design of what you want the outside of your box to look like.
    • Think about the animal’s natural habitat. Will it live in a jungle, the ocean, a forest or a grassland?
    • Decide which part of your animal’s body will move when you turn the cam.

    3. Create a 3D habitat 🌿

    • Use cardboard and other materials to add 3D features to your design.
    • Think about how you could make grass, trees, rocks, waves or plants.
    • Attach your creations securely to your box.
    • Make sure your 3D features do not stop your cam mechanism or moving animal from working.

    4. Paint your box 🎨

    • Once your paper mâché is dry, paint the outside of your box.
    • Choose colours that match your animal and its habitat.
    • Add details to make your design realistic, colourful and creative.

    Before You Finish, Check That…

    • Your box has been covered with paper mâché.
    • Your animal and its habitat are clearly represented.
    • You have included some 3D features.
    • Your design is neat, creative and carefully painted.
    • Your cam mechanism still works and moves the correct part of your animal!
Challenge: Can you add extra details to make your animal’s habitat look as realistic as possible while ensuring your moving mechanism still works?
Remember, the best designs combine creativity with careful construction. Have fun bringing your animals to life!
