LO: To identify and use text features e.g., titles, headings, and pictures to locate and understand specific information.
Explore different examples of instructions, including recipes and building instructions. What do you notice? Look carefully at the titles, pictures, lists and steps. Can you spot some of the imperative verbs we have already been learning?

LO: To use connectives to expand an idea with support.
Instructions need to happen in the right order! Explore words such as First, Next, Then, After that and Finally. Work together to organise muddled instructions and explain how these words help the reader know what to do and when to do it.

LO: To speak clearly to a range of audiences and for different purposes.
Use LEGO or magnetic blocks to create a simple model. Can you give your partner clear instructions so that they can recreate it without seeing your model?
Were your instructions clear enough? What could you change to make them even easier to follow?
LO: To use specific words which relate to the topic of their writing.
Now bring everything together! Create a set of instructions that someone else can really follow. Think about:
What will they need? What order should the steps go in? Which imperative verbs will help? How will you make each instruction clear?
Then give your instructions to someone else and put them to the test!
