Mr D set off early this morning to prepare the Caffi Cynefin Fraction Picnic at Oystermouth Castle… but disaster has struck!
The picnic snacks have been split into strange fractions, some pieces have gone missing, and others have been shared out in puzzling ways.
Just then, a knight from the castle — Sir Fractionius — has left us a message:
“The Great Fraction Feast is in danger! I’ve mixed up the picnic plans… the juice, the cake, the pizza — it’s all gone wrong! Only your maths magic can help us divide the treats fairly and restore order to the castle!”
LO LO: To recognise and find a half of shapes and small quantities.
e.g.Find ½ of 4 strawberries by sharing them into 4 equal groups.
LO: To find halves, thirds and quarters of quantities and shapes using sharing and grouping.
e.g. Find ½ of 10 cubes, ⅓ of 6 counters, or ¼ of 8 buttons by dividing into equal parts.
LO: To identify and compare simple fractions and explain how they represent equal parts of a whole.
e.g. Use diagrams to compare ½, ⅓ and ¾ and explain why ¾ is larger than ½.
