What do we already know about algorithms?

Talk to your partner!

BBC Bitesize tell us that –

“An algorithm is a list of rules to follow in order to complete a task or solve a problem.

The steps in an algorithm need to be in the right order.

Think about an algorithm for getting dressed in the morning.

What if you put on your coat before your jumper?

Your jumper would be on top of your coat and that would be silly!

When you write an algorithm, the order of the instructions is very important.”

How does this relate to DCF?

  • The ability to design, write and debug algorithms…just like computers and phones!
  • The skills to evaluate how algorithms work, including identifying errors (bugs) and improving our efficiency.

LEGO

Build a simple lego structure of your choice, then tell your partner instructions of how to make it but sneak in 1 wrong instruction. Can your partner rebuild your model and figure out what instruction was wrong?

Tasc dau!

Partner Drawing

Draw a picture in secret, then give your partner instructions and see if they can copy it to the final detail (HINT: Make sure you don’t see each other’s drawings!)

Can you get Ben and Katie to GGs?

Ben and Katie have been to Weobly Castle. They would like a GGs on the way home, but they need your help to get there! Can you de bug the algorithm to help them?
