The Adventures of Shapeville

Once upon a time, in a land called Shapeville, there were many different kinds of shapes living happily together. Each shape had its own special property, and they all loved to play and explore together. However, there were five little shapes (Summer, Pippa, Elsie and Harry J) who did not want to learn about shapes!

One bright, sunny morning, a circle named Summer woke up and decided to go on an adventure. She loved rolling around the village because her round shape made her the fastest at rolling! As Summer rolled down the hill, she saw her friends: a square named Pippa, a triangle named Elsie, and a rectangle named Harry J.

“Good morning, everyone!” Summer called out cheerfully.

“Good morning, Summer!” Pippa the square said, puffing out his sides proudly. “Look at my four equal sides! They make me very strong and stable.”

“I’m always excited to explore new places!” said Elsie the triangle. “I have three sides and three corners! My sharp points help me stand tall in the wind.”

Harry J the rectangle stretched out his long shape and said, “I have four corners and four sides, but my opposite sides are equal. I might not roll as fast as Summer, but I can help build strong, stable buildings!”

The friends decided to go on a treasure hunt together. They had heard a rumor that a mysterious magical place was trapped inside of a treasure chest which was hidden in the shape forest. They didn’t know it but to find it, they would need to learn all about shapes.

First, they reached a clearing with clipboard on the ground. There was a shape scavenger hunt. However it was no ordinary scavenger hunt. The clues were riddles. The clue read ‘I have one side and no corners, what am I?’. Summer shouted excitedly “It’s me, I am a circle!”. The others cheered good job Summer. They worked their way through the clues:

  • I have three sides and three corners.
  • I have four sides and four corners.
  • I have four sides and four corners, but two sides are longer than my other two.

The little shapes recognised their friends properties and solved the riddles. “Perfect! Now the puzzle is complete.”

With the puzzle finished, the path to the treasure chest opened! The four friends ran down the path and soon found the chest. Inside were beautiful patterns of different shapes.

“I think we need to figure out the pattern,” Harry J said. “I can see a picture on the old instructions, here look!” Summer whispered excitedly.

One by one, they pressed the shapes in the right order, and with a soft click, the puzzle was complete! The picture the puzzle made was of a wonderful, fun filled, magical land where everything was made for enjoyment. With this they found a magical golden compass that would lead them to this magical desElsietion in Shapeville.

The shapes cheered and celebrated. “We did it together!” they said. “By using our special properties, we can solve any problem!”. “Lets go and find this wonderland…It says a strange word – FAYRE?”.

And so, the friends continued their adventures, helping each other and learning more about the amazing world of shapes. These five little shapes who did not want to learn about shapes, suddenly knew lots!

The end!
