We like to move it, move it..... Movement is very important in helping us to control our limbs. Can we run, jump, skip or hop? Can we use a parachute?
1. The Grand Old Duke of York
Start off with simple well-known rhymes.
You can’t go wrong, and you can add your own improvisations.
Oh, the grand old Duke of York (March on the spot)
He had ten thousand men (Shout this)
He marched them up to the top of the hill (Lift the parachute up)
And he marched them down again (Bring it low down)
And when they were up they were up (Up)
And when they were down, they were down (Down)
And when they were only half-way up (Half-way up)
They were neither up nor down (Up then down!)
2. Incy Wincy Spider
Incy Wincy spider climbed up the waterspout (Go up)
Down came the rain and washed the spider out (Go down)
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain (Walk round in a circle)
Now Incy Wincy spider went up the spout again! (Go back up and finish high)
3. Ring A Ring a Roses
(everyone holding parachute with one hand walking around in a circle, singing)
Ring around the rosy
A pocket full of posies
Achoo, achoo! (Flap the parachute around)
We all fall down! (All fall down)
(While sitting on ground, holding parachute, singing)
Cows are in the meadow, (whisper these two lines)
Eating buttercups.
Thunder, lightning! (Shake the parachute like a storm)
We all jump up! (Jump up and lifting parachute high)
4. Row, row, row your boat
Use the parachute like your oars then lift up to look for the crocodile, mouse, lion, etc
Row, row, row your boat (Pull the parachute back and forwards)
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily (Make the parachute make gentle waves)
Life is but a dream (keep the waves going)
Row, row, row your boat (Pull the parachute back and forwards)
Gently up the creek
If you see a little mouse (Lift the parachute up to look)
Don’t forget to squeak! (Do lots of squeaking! Whilst holding the parachute up)
Row, row, row your boat (Pull and push the parachute like oars)
Gently down the stream (make gentle waves)
If you see a crocodile (Lift the parachute up) Adult shout ‘SNAP.’
Don’t forget to scream! (Scream and run on the spot)
Row, row, row your boat. (Pull and push the parachute like oars)
Gently to the shore (Shimmy the parachute, side to side)
If you see a lion (Lift up the parachute and look under)
Don’t forget to roar! (Roar!)(Run legs on the spot or adults hold and children run away)
