Our New Topic

Shwmae Pod Pysgodyn friends!

Autumn term has arrived, and it's time to dive into a sea of excitement! Are you ready to fizz with curiosity, flow with creativity, and freeze with awe as we explore the wonders of science? This term, we’ll journey through fairytales and facts, expanding our minds and discovering the magic of the world around us.

Imagine an enchanted world where air loves to twirl! First, it zips and zooms as a gas, swirling through the sky like the breeze on a windy day. Then, it settles down and flows as a liquid, creating gentle droplets of rain. And finally, it freezes into tiny crystals, forming frosty patterns and sparkling snowflakes. The dance of air is a magical transformation between gas, liquid, and solid, each one more dazzling than the last! Together, we’ll explore the mysteries of air and matter, discovering how something invisible can shape the world around us. Let's make a splash and learn on this exciting adventure!

Cynefin

Cynefin is a special Welsh word that means feeling like you belong in many places all at once. This term, we’re going to explore how we belong to nature and how nature belongs to us! We’ll celebrate the wonderful Welsh outdoors by looking at what’s above us in the sky and what’s below our feet. The seasons are changing, and the Welsh autumn is almost here!

As the weather gets colder and the leaves turn golden, we’ll learn all about how the animals and plants around us get ready for winter. How do birds find food? Where do hedgehogs sleep? Together, we’ll explore ways we can help the wildlife in our gardens, parks, and forests during the chilly autumn and winter months.

Get ready for fun outdoor adventures as we explore our Cynefin, discovering the wonders of nature and learning how we can protect it! Let’s see how we fit into the great Welsh landscape and how we can make a difference for the animals and plants around us!

Rip-Roaring Reads

At Pod Pysgodyn, we believe that developing a love of literature is the first step toward becoming confident, joyful readers. This term, we’ve chosen a collection of exciting and engaging books that will spark imagination and curiosity in our pupils. Here are the stories we’ll be exploring together:
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson – A fun story about a clever mouse who meets some unexpected creatures in the deep, dark woods.
Tree: Seasons Come, Seasons Go by Patricia Hegarty – A beautifully illustrated book that takes readers through the changing seasons from a tree’s point of view.
Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers – A touching tale of friendship between a boy and a penguin.
The Something by Rebecca Cobb – A lovely story about a mysterious hole in the garden that leads to a world of imagination.
If you know of any other wonderful books, stories, or poems that would support our topics and ignite our pupils' love for learning, please feel free to share your suggestions with us!

The following pages provide an example of the exciting learning we have planned this term, based on your child’s ideas from our launch day. While we organize lessons under each Area of Learning and Experience, we always strive to create meaningful cross-curricular links to enrich their understanding and make learning as engaging as possible. As the topic unfolds and the children delve deeper, their ideas and interests may spark new, exciting changes, therefore some planning may change as we progress through the topic!
