L.O: To calculate area and perimeter

 

I wonder, what can you remember about area and perimeter?

Why are units so important?

We are going outside for 20 minutes.

In that time, you need to measure as many planters as you can and work out their area.

 

For an extra challenge, calculate the circumference of the tyre planters. 

 

Equipment needed:

- scrap squared paper

- pencil

- ruler/measuring tape 

- calculator 

Now, on squared paper - draw your planters on squared paper. 

 

Using the knowledge of seeds below, how many seeds could be planted in the planters that you measured?

🌱 Small Plants (e.g., lettuce, carrots, radishes):

  • Seed spacing: (5 cm) apart

  • Row spacing:  (45 cm)

🌿 Medium Plants (e.g., beets, spinach, onions):

  • Seed spacing:  (10 cm)

  • Row spacing: (30 cm)

🍅 Large Plants (e.g., tomatoes, peppers, cabbage):

  • Seed spacing: (60 cm)

  • Row spacing: (60 cm)
