Annwyl Parents and Carers,

Croeso Nol! A new school year has begun, and one of our favourite moments is seeing the children arrive full of excitement—ready to explore their new pods and dive into fresh learning adventures.

We are thrilled to reveal our autumn term topic: Unplugged. This theme will explore life before technology and encourage pupils to think about how we live away from screens. As always, pupils will be taking part in EPIC (Everybody Planning in Class) to help shape the direction of their learning. We can’t wait to see where their ideas take us! To kick things off, pupils enjoyed a fantastic launch day on Wednesday, filled with hands-on activities and creative thinking. You can catch a glimpse of the fun on our Instagram @Llanrhidian_Primary_School

We’re excited to announce a new Instagram account: Journey of a Gower School. This is a sister page to our main school account and will showcase the wonderful learning journey across our school. Please follow, like, and share—it's a great way to help promote our lovely school community which is crucial for our pupil numbers.

Our new School Development Plan launched in July, and we are already making great progress. This year, we’re focusing on:

  • Enhancing our learning environments—both indoors and outdoors (watch our for more information on our new 'Y Goedwig')
  • Fostering independence in our learners
  • Improving progress in number
  • Establishing a consistent approach to behaviour, based on the principles of Ready, Respectful, and Safe.
  •

To support this, Mrs Gosney will be sharing weekly tips on the blog, helping families connect with our school values and learning goals.

If you are interested in volunteering at the school, we’d love to hear from you! Please speak to Mrs Gosney in the school office for more information.

At Llanrhidian Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority. We take pride in how confidently and calmly our children respond during regular fire drills, demonstrating their preparedness for emergency situations. But safety doesn’t end with evacuation — knowing how to re-enter the building swiftly and safely is just as important.

While lockdown procedures are often associated with external threats, they are more commonly triggered by nearby incidents such as fires or road accidents. That’s why we ensure our pupils are familiar with both evacuation and re-entry protocols, equipping them to respond appropriately to a range of scenarios. To maintain this high standard of readiness, we conduct these drills twice a year, in line with guidance from our local authority. Your child’s safety is always our top priority.

✨Mrs Gosney’s Corner: Growing Together at Home and School ✨

As a school, we are committed to teaching positive behaviours and supporting your children to meet our high expectations. Our inclusive learning environment has been created by adult behaviour that is both strong on boundaries and big on heart. We are delighted that the work we follow in school has been made accessible to families, and over the next few months we will be sharing some ideas in this blog. There will also monthly live events you can attend online. There will be an hour-long ‘Behaviour Bookclub’ session, hosted by Charlotte Clarke from When The Adults Change, online at 8:00pm on the last Thursday of each month. We will send this link to you as soon as it is available.  In addition you can buy a copy of ‘When The Parents Change, Everything Changes’ online here

What's the buzz from the pupils this week? What do you love about a new school year?

Pod Pengwin: I feel excited because I love playing. I love going on the stage to sing and I love to wash and clean up.

Pod Pysgodyn: I love that we have new teachers, new stuff to do. The room is really different and I really like the new squishy seats in our pod!

Pod Pry Cop: Everything! Mr Morgan because he is really nice and kind and it is nice to have someone new. He has only just started but he really knows what he is doing! I love the new classrooms, I like the high tables and the new equipment we have.

🎯 "Every Day Matters – and So Does Every Minute!"

At Llanrhidian Primary School, we’re proud of our pupils and all they achieve, but we know that great attendance and punctuality are the keys to even greater success.

Last year, our overall attendance was 93.6%, which sadly fell short of our school target of 96% and the Swansea target of 95%. We’re determined to do better this year, and we need your help!

Parents and carers, please support us by making sure your child:

  • Attends school every day, unless absolutely necessary.
  • Arrives on time, ready to learn and take part in the day’s activities.

Being late, even by a few minutes, can disrupt learning and make it harder for children to settle into their day. Every minute really does matter!

To keep things fun and motivating, we’ll continue our weekly Attendance Announcements, led by our brilliant Captain Attendance pupils. The children love celebrating their achievements and it’s a great way to build positive habits.

Let’s work together to reach our goal and make every day and every minute count.

Thank you for your continued support!
