To view our digital brochure, click here.  If you are interested in purchasing any art work, please contact the office.

We have also gone digital with our feedback forms, if you have visited the caffi and have any comments about how the caffi is supporting the community or anything feedback at all, we would love to hear from you! Please access our feedback form here.

Funds raised will go towards building a pupil kitchen, fostering culinary skills and community. Nimble Limbs band will provide live music. Thanks to our dedicated parents for securing auction and raffle prizes. Reserve your table now by clicking here.

What's the buzz from the pupils this week?  We asked one pupil from each pod... "What do you like about your school?"

Pod Pengwin:  In school, I love playing with blocks. In the orchard, I really like the tunnel and when you go in it you can turn all around. I love getting messy!! I really love playing catch with my friends. I like doing writing and colouring.

Pod Pysgodyn: This school has nice classrooms, it is a good school because it has lovely staff and nice pupils. My favourite thing to do in school is maths because I like learning about numbers. In Pysgodyn, you get to play with your friends, friends that you have been with since the first year of school.

Pod Pry Cop:  I love my school! I love how friendly everyone is... really friendly! Learning is fun here, school learning is fun. My favourite subject is maths because it's challenging and when I was little Mrs Marchant called me a 'maths genius' and ever since, I have loved it. In Pry Cop you have responsibility, you need to look after everyone and work in the caffi. It's my first time having a job and I like serving people, talking to people and working.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:  Encourage your child to only accept friend requests or follow requests from people they know in real life. Online celebrities and influencers have millions of friends and followers, which can make it difficult for children and young people to recognise the potential risks associated with accepting friend requests. This playlist is designed to help you understand what online relationships entail, the potential dangers they pose, and the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. You will also learn about the importance of consent in online interactions, and how you can support your child to use technology in a way that promotes positive relationships both online and offline. With the sun peeking out from behind the clouds, we'd like to extend a heartfelt "diolch" to all who contributed plant donations this week. Your generosity has truly made a difference in brightening up our school environment.

It's been wonderful to see our school blossoming, quite literally, and to witness the joy on our pupils' faces as they engage with the outdoors during this dry spell. Providing opportunities for our learners to take ownership of their school is not only essential for fostering a sense of "Cynefin" and belonging but also aligns perfectly with our commitment to authentic learning here at Llanrhidian.  By involving our pupils in caring for and beautifying our school grounds, we not only enhance the physical environment but also create invaluable learning experiences. These hands-on activities provide rich opportunities for exploration, discovery, and personal growth, all of which are central to our educational philosophy.  Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort. Together, we are making our school a vibrant and nurturing place for all.

We're thrilled to inform you that our Pod Planning Overview for the upcoming topic 'Allez les Champions!' will be delivered to you next week via your child's pod. Following a fantastic launch day of activities last week, both pupils and staff have been eagerly planning for an enriching learning journey ahead.

The enthusiasm across the school is obvious as students look forward to delving into various aspects of the topic. From learning French to indulging in food tasting, exploring geographical features in comparison to Wales, and diving into the spirit of the 2024 Olympics, there's so much excitement in the air!  We believe in the power of community collaboration, and your input is invaluable. If you possess any particular knowledge or skills that you believe could enhance our exploration of this theme, please don't hesitate to let us know. Your contributions will undoubtedly enrich the learning experience for all involved.  Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm as we embark on this exciting journey together. Merci!

    Here are some key reminders

North Gower Knees Up  We are thrilled to announce that our inaugural North Gower Knees Up event is just around the corner, happening in just 4 weeks! This promises to be an unforgettable evening, filled with entertainment, fantastic prizes, and most importantly, all in support of our pupils.

The funds raised during this event will be earmarked for an exciting initiative: the development of a pupil kitchen. This kitchen will serve as a hub for our children to learn the art of food preparation and cooking. Through this project, they will not only enhance their culinary skills but also contribute to Caffi Cynefin, fostering a sense of community and skill-building.

To add to the excitement, we're delighted to announce that the talented band Nimble Limbs will be gracing us with their presence, ensuring a night filled with great music and dancing.

Furthermore, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our dedicated group of parents who have worked tirelessly to secure an array of amazing auction and raffle prizes. Their commitment and effort truly make events like these possible.

If you haven't already, please take a moment to reserve your table for the event. You can now conveniently make payments through iPay, or alternatively, by sending cash to the school. (Kindly inform the office if you prefer to use iPay for payment processing).

Let's come together as a community to make this event a resounding success and support the bright futures of our pupils. We look forward to seeing you there!

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: Discuss the potential consequences of engaging in online arguments or sharing hurtful comments. In this playlist, you will explore the concept of online hate speech, its underlying causes, and the emotional impact it has on individuals. You will also learn about some proactive measures that you can take if you or your children encounter any instances of hate speech online, as well as additional resources and guidance to assist you further. Bonjour!  We have hit the road running with our new topic "Allez les Champions!"  With the Olympics being held in Paris this year,  our topic offers such a wealth of authentic learning  opportunities.

Authentic learning is key to our curriculum in Llanrhidian, and our new Oriel Cynefin is a perfect example of the pupils being exposed to the "real world!"   Our older pupils will be using their digital skills to develop a web-page based resource to show case the art work which is available to view and purchase during Caffi Cynefin.

Our "New Early Bird Craft Club" is very popular with the pupils.  Staff have planned topic linked crafts to develop their creative and collaborative skills.  For just £30 per half term you can miss the morning traffic and drop your child off for the club.  Click here for more information.

We are very keen to develop our new "Pupil Kitchen" (Yet to have a proper name) and all fundraising will be focused on this over the next term.  If you know of any businesses who can offer a donation, a raffle prize or would like to attend our North Gower Knees Up then please link us up.  Together we can minimise the financial cuts and continue to give our wonderful pupils the curriculum they deserve.

    Here are some key reminders:

North Gower Knees Up! Bookings are coming in and this promises to be a great night!  Thank you so much for your support.  If you want to sit with your friends, it is easier for one of you to book on behalf of everyone.  Don't worry they can still pay separately.  We can book tables for up to 10 people. If you need to amend a booking - just email us and we can delete your previous one.  We will take the last booking as the one you want so we will not delete until you have re-booked or have informed us to.  This is a new venture for us, so any questions, please email the office.  If this is successful, it could be the start of more fun events. All money raised will go towards improving our kitchen facilities for Caffi Cynefin. To book a table for this event, click here.

Planting Week: April 15th to April 19th - To prepare for the upcoming summer on our beautiful grounds, we will be having our annual planting week on the 15th April to the 19th April . We would be grateful if you could donate any plants, pots or compost ready for this fun event.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: Create a List of Approved Websites. It is important to set up internet filters at home to prevent children from accessing age-inappropriate content on their devices. This can be achieved by creating a list of approved websites for your children. Fortunately, the four major internet service providers in the UK - BT, Sky, TalkTalk, and Virgin Media - offer free parental controls that can be activated at any time. These providers have collaborated to produce video guides to assist you in downloading and setting up the controls provided by your internet service provider. To access the video guides, please click here

The Easter holidays are here and what a term it has been! The 'Make Do and Mend' topic has been spectacular, so much so that I heard some pupils' saying 'I'm really going to miss this topic, I have learnt loads!'. Their enthusiasm and attitudes to learning speaks volumes and we are immensely proud of them. The topic finale was last Friday in a spectacular fashion show, where pupils (and staff!) strutted their stuff on the catwalk! As the days get longer and lighter, we look forward to the launch of our summer term topic on Tuesday April 9th!

A huge diolch yn fawr you to all our parents for your tremendous support this term, spanning from supporting schools in Zambia to charities in Swansea, and for your enthusiastic participation in our Easter Eggstravaganza event. These events are what make our school a special place to be.

We have some exciting news!  We have developed a new Early Bird Craft Club which will be aimed at developing creative and artistic skills.  We have amazing plans for next term, and your child can attend each morning from 8am to 8.25 each day.  During this time they will be working collaboratively on an amazing work of art that will be finally displayed in our Caffi Cynefin.  We will be posting the progress on Instagram.  We are so excited about this, and cannot wait to see what will be created.  If you would like your child to take part please book now by clicking here. For more information check out our website!

Our Cynefin Oriel is taking shape, and we have had a variety of artists' work on display.  Plenty of room for more - so please spread the word.

However, we may also see or experience things that are upsetting or worry us. Click here to read more about how to take care of your child's digital wellbeing.

The last week of the spring term is almost here, and everyone is feeling excited for our fashion show later today. The pupils have worked extremely hard on repurposing recyclable items to express themselves! Be sure to have a look on Instagram later to see their fabulous creations.  With Easter just around the corner, we look forward to finishing the end of the term next week with our annual Easter Extravaganza! See below for more details.

A huge diolch yn fawr for supporting our 'Red Nose Day' event and Matthew's House by sending in non perishable items, this really will help others across Swansea to have a better Easter. Diolch!

If you are out shopping over the weekend, please could you support us with a small prize for our Easter hampers.  A huge thank you to those who have sent in their prizes already.  If you know anyone who is willing to provide a larger "stand alone" prize, please let us know.  We have a great following on Instagram now, and can use this to say thank you to local businesses. We will be drawing the Easter raffle on March 22nd in our special Easter assembly.

We have secured a £3000 grant to help develop a fully functioning kitchen for our pupils to learn life skills.  Obviously this is not enough so we will be putting any money raised from "North Gower Knees Up" at Oldwalls towards this venture.  Our Caffi is thriving, but we are ready to take the pupils' learning to the next step.  Budgeting, designing and preparing food is an essential life skill, so we are extremely excited about this venture. To book a table for this spectacular event, click here.

Booking forms for Early Bird Craft Club and Clwb Ceirios Summer 2024 are now open! To book your spot in Early Bird Craft Club, click here. To book your spot in Clwb Ceirios, click here.

Here are the headlines this term:

Easter Eggstravaganza Event - We are very excited to be holding our  Easter Eggstravaganza  on Thursday 21st March and  are  praying for a dry day.  If you are able to help out with any Easter cakes, cookies, soft drinks etc, please send them in.

We are excited to announce that our pod Pili-Pala will also be showcasing their creative Easter bonnets in a festive parade starting at 11am on Thursday 21st March. Parents are invited to come and cheer on their little ones as they proudly present their adorable and imaginative creations. Don't miss this special event!

Due to the Easter Bonnet parade there will be no Plant Bach next Thursday 21st March. The next Plant Bach will be on April 18th which is the second week back after the holidays! Looking forward to seeing you then!

Here are the details for the day:-

    • 1.30pm gates and Caffi Cynefin will open. There will also be take out drinks  sold from Siop Cierios.  (Please note only the front gate by bus bay will be opened for safeguarding reasons)
    • 2.00 - Easter Bonnet Parade begins  - The route for this will be dependent on the weather, but don't worry you will all get to see your child parade in their lovey bonnet.

After the parade the pupils will return to their pods.  If you would like to collect them at this point just stand in the usual pick up place and the teachers will see you.   This is an opportunity for parents and community to come together for a chat and a catch up, so please feel free to use our outside benches or our caffi and enjoy the occasion.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: Make sure your child only downloads age-appropriate apps and games.  We know how important it is to keep children safe online. That's why Hwb have made helpful guides, giving you a detailed overview of apps and games, including their age rating and key terminology. They also point out any potential risks that each app may pose and provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to enable parental controls and safety settings. The guides can help start conversations with your kids about sensitive issues.  Please click here for the guides.

We will be sending you more information about the evening event very soon.

This week we have started to prepare for the grand finale of our Spring topic 'Make do and Mend'. We will be holding a whole school fashion show, where pupils will parade items they have made from recycled waste. Each pod has been in touch regarding how you might be able to help at home! It really has been a fantastic topic which has captured the pupils' curiosity and interest.

Hooray it is March, and according to the meteorological calendar, it is officially Spring!  Although a short term, we are packing a lot in.

Today we will be holding our St David's Marchnad.  Such traditional events bring us together and is true "Cynefin".  Thank you, as always, for all your support.  We really appreciate that not all can attend, donate, help out, but together we make these events work and create special memories for our pupils.  We will open the gates at 1.30. The Caffi will be open with a limited menu, and there will be stalls and take out hot drinks in the Marchnad.  Please bring lots of change.

Some parents have asked for an evening  "grown ups" school fundraising event.  As a result we have booked an amazing event with sponsor "Oldwalls".  The date is Friday 17th May, and there will be welcome drinks, a two course dinner and entertainment.  We are so grateful for their continued support, and there has never been a time when we have needed it so much.  We will keep you posted with the details but in the mean time dust off your glad rags and prepare for a great evening with your friends.  (Tables will seat 10).

Thank you to those parents who have offered to join our army of "parent volunteers".  There is so much you can help with from amser tost to listening to readers or helping with events.  Also many of you have amazing skills that are really helpful to us as a school.   Big thanks to those parents who sold teas and coffees on parents evening this week.  If you are interested in becoming a school volunteer please get in touch or complete this volunteer form.

Our Oriel Cynefin (Art Gallery) is starting to take shape.  If you have any framed artwork you would like to sell, display or donate please let us know!   If you know anyone who can help us make this a success, please get in touch.  A huge thank you to those who have already contributed.  All art work is on display at Caffi Cynefin each Thursday morning.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: Protect your identity!

Top Tip 19 – Protect your identity

Your identity is a crucial part of who you are. It helps you prove your identity, age, passports, driving licenses, and mobile phone contracts. However, cybercriminals can steal your identity, use it to commit crimes, or sell it to other criminals. Identity thieves often operate online, looking for personal information on social media and unprotected emails. They take advantage of people's tendency to share too much personal information online. Helping our children understand this will help them protect their identity. Click here for more information.

This will be a busy half term as we head towards Easter, so please ensure you share dates with your family members.

Exciting news!  We have been successful in a small bid to develop a school kitchen.  This will be used to support our Caffi Cynefin, but what we really want to do is build a fully functioning kitchen to support pupil cooking skills at the top end of the school.  We have some amazing ideas, but we need to expand our facilities.  Can you help?  We will need a kitchen designer, fitter, cupboards, white goods etc.  We will have a limited budget, but the investment will be well worth it for both pupils and our community!  Please get in touch if you can help.

Parent volunteers - with less and less staff, our pupils would really benefit from a "army" of volunteers to help with events and in school activities.   If you have skills, time and want to support us, please let us know. (This does not need to be a regular commitment, as we understand that you are all busy.)  We will need to send you a volunteer form and obtain references, but would be grateful for your support.   Click here to complete a volunteer form.

Next Monday and Tuesday, we have parents meetings.  Would anyone be able to volunteer to sell take away tea and coffee and cold drinks from "Siop Cierios" on this evening?    Get in touch if you can help.

We are continuing to develop a local art gallery in our school hall to be viewed in Caffi Cynefin.   If you have any framed artwork you would like to sell, display or donate please let us know!  We would love to celebrate your work in our new 'Oriel Cynefin' which translates as 'Cynefin Gallery'.   Not only will this lift the environment, but it will also inspire our pupils.  We have an original Gareth Thomas Painting (not for sale) as a start for "Oriel Cynefin".  If you can help us make this a success, please get in touch.  A huge thank you to those who have already contributed.

Early Bird Club  - A massive thank you to everyone who supports this provision.  Unfortunately we are still not drawing in enough funds to pay for the staff.  We are unable to subsidise this in any way from the school budget.  We are determined to make this work.  Our options are that either more families use it, or we will have to increase the charges.  We have listened to how important this is to you, and we will continue to welcome your ideas.  We will keep you fully informed.  If you could support us, please complete the  Spring 2 Booking Form.

Here are the headlines this term:

Parent Evening  26th and 27th February - You should have received a link to book your time slot.  This will be an opportunity for you to speak to a member of the pod staff about your child's progress.  Please can we ask that you stick to the allocated time so other parents are not kept waiting.   Any issues with booking, please email the office.

St David's Eisteddfod &  Marchnad Dydd Gwyl Dewi March 1st - We will be holding our traditional "fun" Eisteddfod with all the pupils in the morning.  Here are the competitions they can enter from home.

Leek Olympics - This year we are going all out and hosting the 'Leek Olympics'. We know how much you all love our Heaviest Leek competition, but why limit the fun to just one category?

There are 4 categories you can enter in:

    • Heaviest Leek

    • Longest Leek

    • Smallest Leek

    • Best Dressed Leek

One leek can only enter one category, however, you may enter each category with a different leek. Please clearly label your leeks with your child's name and category.

In the afternoon, from 1.30pm, we will hold a marchnad in the marquee and a special Caffi Cynefin will be open.  If you are able to attend, you are welcome to collect your child to visit the stalls.  If not you can send your child in with up to £2 to spend.  Each pod will be having their own stall and each pod will be letting you know how you can help.   We will update you with more information nearer the time.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: Think before you post

Many people behave differently online than they do in person. The anonymity and invisibility of the large audience make them feel protected by their screens. This can be a positive thing, as some people may feel more confident to open up and be themselves. However, some people misuse social networks to shame and hurt others. It's important to remember that the digital world is the real world with real consequences. So, before you hit send, always ask yourself the following questions: Is it kind? Is it true? Is it necessary? Please click the link to find out more information

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:

Did you know that 12% of young people in the UK are affected by cyberbullying? Cyberbullying, also known as online bullying, occurs when someone uses the internet to bully another person. According to the Cambridge dictionary, cyberbullying is defined as someone who uses the internet to harm or frighten another person, especially by sending them unpleasant messages. It's important to be aware of the negative impact cyberbullying can have on individuals and take steps to prevent it. St David's Day is just around the corner and this year it is going to be even better!  The children will be participating in our annual Llanrhidian Eisteddfod which is always such a fun event.  Please see below for the fun competitions the pupils can take part in.  All entries will need to arrive on or before March 1st ready for our special morning.

Here are the headlines this term.

St David's Eisteddfod &  Marchnad Dydd Gwyl Dewi March 1st.  We will be holding our traditional "fun" Eisteddfod with all the pupils in the morning.

Design a Welsh Sports Kit - We are starting a new competition this year and would love for your children to get involved. We want to encourage our pupils to design a sports kit for their favourite sport. Sewing, sketching, painting, natural resources... the creative world is your oyster!

All entries need to be in by the morning of Friday March 1st 2024.

Please can pupils arrive in school dressed in Welsh costumes or red tops ready for our celebration morning assembly.

Easter Eggstravaganza Event - We are very excited to be holding our  Easter Eggtravaganza  on Thursday 21st March and  are  praying for a dry day.  If you are able to help out with any Easter cakes, cookies, soft drinks etc, please send them in.

    Here are the details:-

    • 1.30pm gates and Caffi Cynefin will open. There will also be take out drinks  sold from Siop Cierios.  (Please note only the front gate by bus bay will be opened for safeguarding reasons)
    • 2.00 - Easter Bonnet Parade begins  - The route for this will be dependent on the weather, but don't worry you will  all get to see your child parade in their lovey bonnet.

After the parade the pupils will return to their pods.  If you would like to collect them at this point just stand in the usual pick up place and the teachers will see you.   This is an opportunity for parents and community to come together for a chat and a catch up, so please feel free to use our outside benches and enjoy the occasion.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: In-App purchases - It's not always easy to spot in-app purchases. You might download a free game app but then find out that you need to make an "in-app purchase" to unlock the next level. If you choose to make the purchase, you'll be charged an additional amount, which will be deducted from the credit card or payment method linked to your device.
