A Message from your Pod staff....

At Llanrhidian we focus on the whole pupil, which includes their academic skills, knowledge and understanding.

In addition, we value our pupils' physical and mental health and well-being; their growth mindset; their resilience; their empathy and sympathy to one another; their sense of ‘Cynefin’ and community spirit; along with many other skills and attributes that are hard to measure.

It is therefore vitally important that we all remember that these "Welsh Government Personalised Assessments" are a snapshot in time of a pupil on a particular day.

Llanrhidian staff want the pupils to be happy, healthy and safe in school and to try their best to ‘be the best they can be’.  If they can’t do something yet, then that is great, because it gives us all something to work on with them and we get to enjoy seeing the progress they can make under our supervision.  We can then celebrate their milestones and achievements with you, and keep you well informed.

All the staff in our school are advocates for a positive growth mindset and this is promoted across the school. We focus on positive vocabulary, such as ‘can’t yet’, ‘have another go’, ‘is there another way’, ‘what other strategy could we try?’ and ‘try your best’.

The wording that will be presented to you as parents/carers in these personalised assessment reports does not always reflect our growth mindset approach, but unfortunately the wording of the reports is not in our control.

We have a statutory obligation to share the reports with you, but please understand that we will continue to provide you with our Llanrhidian Primary School assessment summary in the form of our end of year reports, which takes into account a much wider range of assessments that we have undertaken with your children from across the entire school year.

As always, we are here to discuss any questions you may have regarding the personalised assessments when the reports become available to you.

Diolch yn fawr,

#TeamLlanrhidian
