Annwyl Parents and Carers,
Welcome back! What a great start to the new year!
Our Whole School Attendance for last year was
94.2% which is a whole 1% on the previous year!
Well done everyone!
Swansea Target 95%
Llanrhidian Target 96%
We have been so close to reaching the Swansea attendance target this year. Let's rally together and strive to hit it in 2025!
Firstly I know you will join me in congratulating Mrs Chafey on the birth of her daughter "Elsie". All are doing well and enjoying this very special time.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of our exciting new topic "Fizz! Flow! Freeze!" We have planned a fantastic range of activities to kick off this topic, and we can't wait to work with the pupils to map out the learning journey for the term ahead. You will receive an overview of our plans through the "Pod Planning Overview" (PPO), which will be sent to you soon.
We're also gearing up for a fun educational trip to our local area to enhance the learning experience. Please make sure you've filled out the latest admission form for your children so they have the green light to join us. (We are asking all families to do this, thank you to those who have already completed it.) This pack also includes sections where you can give consent for your child to appear on Instagram and the school website. Your prompt completion of this is appreciated! Click here if you have not yet completed.
FYI - We've added a handy new section to our website called "How to Chat with Your Child's Teacher." This guide outlines the best ways to reach out to our staff for support in helping your child succeed. Simply click here to check it out.
We're very fortunate to have a team of dedicated volunteers who kindly lend their support during events and help enrich our curriculum. Their contribution is invaluable, and the pupils truly benefit from their assistance. We're currently on the lookout for someone who'd be willing to make toast for the pupils - a simple but important task! If you have a few spare hours and would like to join our wonderful team of volunteers, please click here to complete a volunteer form.
At our school, health and safety are paramount. Our regular fire drills are a shining example of how well-prepared our pupils are for emergencies. In addition to evacuating the building swiftly, it's equally crucial for them to know how to re-enter the building quickly. While lockdown procedures are often associated with threats from individuals, it's more likely to occur due to incidents like a nearby fire or a road accident. Therefore, we ensure our pupils are well-versed in both exiting and entering procedures to handle any situation that may arise. These drills will take place twice a year as recommended by our local authority. Your child's safety is our top priority!
Here are some headlines this week:
Pod Open Evening Monday 14th October: We warmly invite all parents and carers to our annual pod open evening. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to explore the exciting learning experiences at Llanrhidian. You can chat with the teachers, view your child's books and digital projects, and even ask any questions you may have. Our pod open evening has a more relaxed atmosphere compared to our formal parent evening (held in the Spring Term), and we genuinely encourage you to come along and let your child guide you through their school experience. No booking is required - simply drop in anytime between 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm. Please do bear in mind that due to the nature of the event, teachers won't be able to engage in private discussions about individual pupils.
Monster Ball: Wednesday 23rd October (No Clwb Hwyl) @4.30 til 6: There will be a disco in the marquee (run by Mr G); refreshments; fancy dress (pupils and adults) and lots of fun! Please let us know if you can help decorate the marquee! (Our volunteers last year were amazing!) If you can support the event with donations of cakes or treats to sell, we would be most grateful. Weather permitting - this will be an outside event. If you want to volunteer to run a refreshment stall or decorate the marquee, please get in touch.
What's the buzz from the pupils this week? "Cwestiwn yr Wythnos!" We ask pupils a weekly question in order to feed into our school improvement. "What was your favourite thing about launch day for the topic 'Fizz! Flow! Freeze!"?
Pod Pengwin: I loved being on the bikes. I did some planting which was very good. I also did some colouring with my friends.
Pod Pysgodyn: My favourite thing was finding out what the topic was and doing all the fun activities. The water activity was excellent - there was always a problem so you had to keep fixing it! It was a very fun day!
Pod PryCop: I really enjoyed all three activities from the day. In 'Fizz' we did an activity called 'dancing raisins' and we rocketed balloons across the class! In 'Flow' we learnt about The Water Cycle and played a human Water Cycle relay. In 'Freeze' we had to put string on ice, dip it in salt and try to pick it up - it's harder than it sounds!! It was a fantastic day and we are looking forward to the topic!!
Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: Group chats are a popular way for young people to connect online through messaging apps, social media, and online games. These chats involve three or more individuals and allow users to share messages, images, and videos with everyone in the group. They are valuable for friends, people with shared interests, or club members to communicate and coordinate activities. However, they can also make young people feel excluded and bullied, and they provide opportunities for inappropriate content to be shared and viewed.
Here are a few things parents and carers need to be aware of:
- Do they need their child to be in the group chat?
- Considering others’ feelings
- Be careful not to exclude or isolate people.
