Suggested 11th May

Here are some suggested activities for week beginning 11th May. Parents, please feel free to email me and let me know how your children are getting on with their learning. Please also email me if you have any questions.

Last week you sent some fantastic questions in for Nurse Wendy. We chose some of your questions to ask her. You can watch the video below.

This week we are going to learn about our superhero bodies and how we change over time.

1. Guess who??

Here are some photos of the teachers and staff in Pili-Pala and Pengwin when they were little. Can you guess who is who?

2. Humanities

Can you discuss with your family how you have changed as you have got older? Can you create a self portrait of what you looked like as a baby or what you look like now?

3. Music and Dance

Mrs Gosney loved this song when she was little and still does! Can you sing and dance along to the skeleton song?

6. Maths - Recognising numbers

Make some number flashcards 1-5 and arrange them in a straight line in front of your child. Say a number and then tell your child to point to the card with the same number on it, have your child recite the number out loud.

Once your child has mastered the game, try some of these variations to increase the difficulty:

  • Add more numbered flashcards to the game.
  • Scatter the numbers in front of your child (not a straight line)
  • Place the numbered flashcards out of order (i.e. 2, 10, 4, 1, 6)

7. Phonics

Sounds of the week are r j v y w

You might like to do a sound a day

  • Play I spy around you home and garden. Can you spot things that start with the r j v y or w sound?
  • Practice writing the sounds with a paintbrush and water on your patio/path.
  • Join in with the RWI phonics lesson each morning

RWI are streaming three, short Speed Sounds lessons for children to watch at home every weekday on their YouTube channel. Each lesson is ten minutes long and available for 24 hours.

When teaching your child to say the sounds, its important to say the pure sounds. This means we say mmmmm not muh and lllll not luh. (A slight uh cannot be helped when saying the sounds b d g j w y). How to say the sounds follow this link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q
