    Dear Parents,

Thank you for helping us with our attendance it has slightly improved to 91.3%.  Although we have a long way to reach the Swansea target of 95%, at least we are heading in the right direction.

This week all pupils have been learning about St Dwynwen and understanding the importance of love and kindness.  Our Caffi has been a great hit again and we are ramping up our pupil expectations to include "think for yourself!" This week's team were awesome and coped with one of the busiest days so far!  Keep spreading the word and bring someone along next week.

Due to the industrial action of NEU members, the school will be closed to all pupils between Reception and Year 6 on Wednesday February 1st.  The school will remain open to non-striking staff on this day.

To support our parents and carers to navigate through the dangers of online activity, we are going to try and include weekly tips and advice in the school blog.   This week we will focus on  "keeping safe on internet devices". Here is some useful information that will you show you the risks of internet connected devices.  PLEASE CLICK THIS LINK

Here are the other headlines this week:-

I Wonder Week - Next week, we will be having guest speakers from a range of religious and non-religious backgrounds, sharing their beliefs with our pupils. This will give opportunities for questions which will develop knowledge and tolerance for the diversity within the world we live.

Parent Evening - You should have now received an invite for parents' evening.  Please contact the office if you have had any trouble with this.

Marchnad Dydd Gwyl Dewi March 1st - We are planning for a St David's day market on the afternoon of March 1st.  Please can pupils arrive in school dressed in Welsh costumes or red tops ready for our celebration morning assembly.  In the afternoon, from 2pm, we will hold a market in the marquee.  If you are able to attend, you are welcome to collect your child to visit the stalls.  If not you can send your child in with some money to spend.    Each pod will be having their own stall and will be letting you know how you can help.  Please spread the word if you know of any stall holders who would like to set up and sell their wares.  Please click here for more information.

    Have a fabulous weekend

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a fabulous week learning to use our new sensory circuit!  The sensory circuit provides a sequence of activities  to provide our pupils with the right type of sensory input in order to calm and organise them for the day ahead ready for the best possible learning to occur.  It also develops co-ordination and core strength.  This is an example of the universal provision that enables us to meet the needs of every pupil.  If you want to see this amazing resource, check it out on Twitter - even the staff have had a go.

Our EWO has been monitoring our attendance which shows that from September to now, it has continued to decline and now stands at 91%.  Our school is currently well below the Swansea expectation of 95%.  I think we can turn this around but we need your help.  We have been directed by our welfare officer to send supportive letters to the parents of  pupils whose attendance is below 85%.   We appreciate that your child may have been ill, or attendance has been authorised, but this is just to highlight the impact missed days have on your child's well-being and progress.  Even the odd day, half a day or collecting your child early or arriving late, means missed learning.  If you would like to discuss your child's attendance with the school, or our educational welfare officer, please let us know.   Here are other headlines this week:-

Strike Action - The Council has been notified that strike action is to be taken by Trade Unions on 1st February, 14th February, 15th March and 16th March.  We will keep you updated but have currently been told to wait for further guidance.

What's App Age restrictions - In Europe and the UK, the minimum age of use for WhatsApp is 16 years old. Like many age restrictions on social media apps, some parents may choose to ignore this.  If you, as a parent, do allow your child to use What's App or any other form of social communication, then please discuss with them how to act in group chats, and consider their words and responses carefully, and to monitor this frequently.   This has a huge and negative affect on our children's well-being and their learning.  We would urge you to read "Is What's App Safe for My Child" by the NSPCC. (Click on this link)

Caffi Cynefin - I cannot express how positively this has impacted upon our pupils' confidence.  Thank you so much for your support, and please spread the word.  If you can bring an elderly person it would make such a difference to their day.

Parent Evening - You should have no received and invite for parent's evening.  Please contact the office if you have had any trouble with this.

Well-Being Workshops for Parents -  Jan 25th (When to worry about your worrier - REPEAT)  and March 15th (Emotional Regulation) @ 3.30 in School Hall  - Amy Glass the in-reach CAHMS worker will be hosting a parent workshop on these dates. Your child can attend sports club.   Please let the office know if you want to book a place.

    Have a fabulous weekend

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy new year to you all.  It is wonderful to have all the pupils back and ready to learn through our new topic  "Think, Wonder, Dream" and as usual you will receive a Pod Project Overview at the end of next week once we have considered all the pupils' ideas for the topic.

We had a brilliant end of term and we thank you all for the amazing support for the shows, the raffle, and the Christmas Fayre.  It has been a while since we have had such community events, and I am sure these will go from strength to strength.

This week we held our first Caffi Cynefin in the school hall, and the pupils were, once again, amazing.  We are committed to this "warm hub" for our community and we are now advertised on the Swansea website. If you are able to bring any elderly people along please do.  Our pupils are eager to make a real difference to our community.  This, however, is also about giving our pupils real life experiences, developing their confidence and giving them a taste of the world of work.  Huge thank you to all the parents and staff who make this happen!

As it is a fresh new year, we are asking you to please consider your child's attendance.  This was printed on your written report last term, and we really hope that you will work with us to improve this as needed.  Every hour counts in school, so please ensure your child attends unless unwell.  We no longer need pupils to be kept home for coughs and colds, as we will just remind them about hygiene and washing their hands.  Please refrain from taking holidays during term time as we are now advised to return to previous attendance polices when authorising any absence.  Our Education Welfare Officer is now attending school regularly to check the registers, and will contact families to offer support where attendance is low.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are having difficulty getting your child to school so we can work together.

Parent Evening - We look forward to inviting you to a formal parent evening this term where you can come and speak to a pod member about your child's progress.  We will be sending out an electronic booking link once we have confirmed the date.

Water Bottles - Please can you remind your children to bring in their water bottles each day.  If you wish to purchase a school water bottle, please send in £3.00 in a marked envelope to the school office.  Pupils who forget their water bottles are missing learning time as they are asking for cups.

Clwb Hwyl (Year 1 to Year 6) - We have once again asked the pupils what they would like as their pod clubs, and are resuming these each Wednesday after school until 4.15.  We are sorry we do not have the staffing levels to offer this to Reception pupils at this time.

Amser Tost - Please send your £10 into the school for the term, or pay via Squid.

Parking on zig zags The police have received reports of parents and guardians parking on the yellow zig zags outside our school.  Please remember these mark a safe "no car" zone for pupils and their siblings, so please let's work together on this.

    Have a fabulous weekend
