Pod Pysgodyn - 95.2% (Down from last week)

With September nearly over we will be thinking about our Monster Balls and our Wizard and Wonders Week.  Please see more information below, but if you have any decorations that we can have to decorate the marquee, please drop them in.  Our budget is extremely tight at the moment so every little helps.

Every learner in our school looks forward to their piece of toast in the morning.  "Amser Tost" really does boost them, enabling them to concentrate and make the best out of their school morning.  However, to keep this going we really do rely on parent contributions of £10 per family per half term.  Please help us to keep this wonderful homely touch going for our pupils.  You can pay via sQuid (a request has been sent) or send in the money in an envelope clearly marked.

Our Clwb Ceirios (Click here for more information) is going well, and we are so grateful to the staff who run this provision for working parents.   Thank you also to those parents who are supporting this venture.   We are now releasing the Autumn 2 booking form.  if you want to book your child in you must complete this and pay before half term.  As always without enough bookings we are unable to offer this provision.    Please click here to access the Autumn 2 Booking Form.

Remember to share this blog with members of your family so they can enjoy our community events too.  For example our Caffi Cynefin is still open every Thursday and our pupils need customers to develop their "World of Work" skills.

Here are the headlines for this week:

Pod Open Evening - Wednesday October 18th 3.15 until 5.30 (No Clwb Hwyl) We are very excited to invite you to look around the pod with your child. We will be encouraging the children to talk about their learning, show you the resources (including digital) and give you a tour of their workshops. There will be an opportunities to chat to the teachers but this will be informal within the evening. We will also be asking you to complete an online survey during your visit. We look forward to seeing you!

Community Event "Marchnad Harvest"  - Thursday 19th October @1.30 - 3.25:  We will be exposing our pupils to the world of business and work by holding a community harvest market in our marquee.  We hope to have a number of local stall holders attending, so if you know anyone interested in a free stall please share and ask them to get in touch.  Likewise if you have had a clear out and want to have a table top sale, just let us know.      In addition, each pod will be promoting and running their own stalls to sell something homegrown, homemade or free trade.  We hope you can support your pod with donations.   Each pod will send out more details soon.   The marchnad will run from 1.30 until the end of the school day.  If you do visit the market and wish to collect your child early to attend with you, we will accommodate.  Just let a staff member know and we will bring your child to you.   Caffi Cynefin will also be open for refreshments and we would be very grateful for cake donations for this day.    Please bring your own bags.  This will be a cash only event and please bring plenty of change.

Monster Ball - Wednesday 25th October (No Clwb Hwyl) @4.30 til 6:  There will be a disco in the marquee (run by Mr G); refreshments (hot  dogs and cakes); fancy dress (pupils and adults) and lots of fun! Please let us know if you can help decorate the marquee!  (Our volunteers last year were amazing!)  If you can support the event with donations of cakes or treats to sell, we would be most grateful.  Weather permitting - this will be an outside event.

The end of another busy but fabulous week here in Llanrhdian! The children have settled into their new pods fantastically and are really enjoying the 'True Colours' topic. You should have by now received the Pod Project Overview (PPO), which will give you an idea of some of the brilliant learning that will take place over the next few months. September is a great time to think about what we would like to get out of the term ahead and the pupils have already started giving ideas of what they would like to learn and how we can improve our school. Our 'School Council' elections are about to take place and all pupil voice groups will be announced very soon. What the pupils say really does impact our school hugely and we really value their input; ensuring we are all 'the best we can be!'

It is wonderful to see all pupils wearing school uniform every day. It really does make us feel like one big team. Please can you make sure that all uniform and other belongings; coats, bags etc are labelled with your child's name so that we can ensure it all goes home to the right place. One of the best feelings as a teacher in Llanrhidian is in a whole school assembly looking out at the sea of blue.

Our topic of "True Colours" is now well underway.  You will soon receive your child's Pod Project Overview which outlines just some of the learning that has been planned this term.  However, in order to ensure our pupils make the most progress, a lot of our planning responds to what our learners need.  This ensures that if staff identify an area that needs support, we plan for it straight away.

Our Clwb Ceirios is very well attended which is brilliant news.  We will soon be asking for bookings for Autumn 2.  However, having to chase payments is taking office staff away from core business, so please help us by paying up front as agreed.   To find out more please visit the Clwb Ceirios Web Page

Autumn term is a very busy one! Please remember we have a website calendar to help you plan the term ahead.  If you notice anything missing, or a wrong date, please let us know.  As a small staff our individual workload is huge, so extra eyes on such things are a great help to us.

What a great start to the term. Our launch day was amazing with steel pan music; an elder from our "Windrush Generation" and of course the amazing Caribbean curry!  A huge thanks to Race Council Wales who supported this day with a grant.   The pupils will now be working with their teachers to plan their term ahead.  Our teachers know what skills and knowledge the pupils need, but the pupils will be deciding and shaping the content.  You will soon receive a Pod Project Overview (PPO) so you can see some of the learning planned for the term ahead.

As always we will release this blog every Friday morning throughout the year.  Please share it with family members and child minders as often they will need to know what is happening in our school community.

We have had a very disappointing start to the year in terms of attendance and are expecting a Local Authority visit this month to analyse school attendance.  I cannot stress how important it is for your child to attend school.  Not only is this vital to their academic progress but also their well-being.  Please, please consider the impact of missed school as teachers are not able to repeat experiences.  For more information on attendance click here.

Here are the headlines for this week:

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:  Technology and the internet have become an integral part of our everyday lives, and it's nearly impossible for children to avoid coming into contact with the online world. Social media apps, messaging services, and online games are just some of the digital platforms children use daily, which is why it's crucial for us, as trusted adults, to help protect them from potential harm. However, it's equally important that children learn how to respond to online dangers. To empower children to make the right decisions when interacting with the online world. The guide advises on potential risks such as personal information, strangers, and cyberbullying. For more information click here.
