    Dear Parents and Carers,

Well we have done it!  A big well done to everyone for getting through a half term, under a high alert!  On a personal note I would like to thank the outstanding staff who are so committed to our core business - keeping the school open and keeping the pupils learning!  A special thank you to all the new staff who have joined our team this term.  We are not an easy team to join, with all our funny little Llanrhidian ways, but they have all been fantastic, and we could not have got through this term without them.

We all know that teamwork is at the heart of all achievement, and this is a value that we pride ourselves on at Llanrhidian.  Thank you for being part of our team, and thank you for all your support  as we all try to do our very best under the challenges faced by us all.   Here are the headlines this week:-

    1.  A Covid Keep - we have all loved our week of Wizardry and Wonders, and its been a fantastic end to a busy half term.  This is certainly something we may well repeat next year, perhaps even make it bigger and better!

    2. Fundraising - We really need to replenish our funds as the cost of covid, and lack of fundraising opportunities is hitting us hard.  Please support our Christmas events eg 100 club, raffle, shopping channel etc, as this makes such a difference to the experiences and resources that we can off our pupils.  There will be more information after half term.  As always, if you know any businesses who are able to make donations (funds or raffle prizes) please ask them to support your school.

    3. Christmas Concerts  - In order to keep the school open by keeping the staff and pupils healthy, we will be holding virtual Christmas Concerts again this year.  This is a joint decision made by the North Gower Partnership whilst Swansea remains in the high risk category.   This is in line with our risk assessment and  hopes to safeguard everyone's Christmas holiday by minimising the risk of an outbreak.

Videos will be placed on our website video channel as we did last year.  If we have not had permission for your child to be on Twitter, we will be contacting you to check that you do not wish your child to be filmed.  Please don't worry, no pupil will miss out on the rehearsals and the learning associated with the performances.

That just leaves me to wish all the staff, families and our fabulous pupils, an amazing half term and a well deserved break.  See you all on November 1st.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Next week is our final week before half term.  We have had a great start to the year, and all pupils are making progress across the curriculum.  Before the end of term you will receive a written report from your pod staff.  We are very proud of how our pupils are recovering from missed schooling, but please help us by not taking your child out of school unnecessarily. This has a huge impact upon their progress, and often their confidence.

Thank you all again for helping us with our core purpose of keeping the school open by keeping pupils and staff safe.  We are doing really well, and that is down to us all working together.  Here are this week's headlines:-

    1. Wizardry and Wonders Week - Next week  we have planned a week of events and activities to ensure that the pupils do not miss out on their Monster's Ball.  Learning will not stop, but we will focus our topic on the "force of magic and science". Pods will be planning magic tricks, experiments, cooking, art,  literature and numeracy activities linked to the time of year.    Each day a different pod will have use of the marquee for their very own monster's ball.  Your child can dress up for this, but please do not send in any objects such as broom sticks, lanterns etc.  We are still minimising "stuff" from home as staff have to wipe everything down.    Here is the plan for the week:

Moany Monday:  Pili Pala to dress for a monsters' ball

Terrifying Tuesday: Fun activities across the school

Woo ooo ooo Wednesday: Pysgodyn to dress up for a monsters' ball

Thriller Thursday: PryCops to dress up for a monsters' ball

Freaky Friday: Pengwins to dress up for a monsters' ball

    2. Thank you to Mrs Morgan for organising the school council elections, and well done to all those to participated in their pod party conferences!  The votes are counted and the new members will be announced today.  But remember - we are proud of every pupil here in Llanrhidian, and every learner has an opportunity to sit on a pupil voice group.

    Have a great week

    Mrs Caswell

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Where are the weeks going?  Time seems to be flying by, as we are hurtling towards half term.  Thank you for all your positive feedback regarding the Pod After School Club.  The pupils are really enjoying - a big thank you to the staff for providing this.   Here are this week's headlines:-

    1. Shwmae Day October 15th "Wear Red, Green or White" - We will be celebrating this day with lots of Welsh activities in each pod. Our super Driegaiu will be planning some fun for everyone. Da iawn pawb!  Don't forget to greet all your family and friends with a big "shwmae" on this day.   We are asking pupils to wear the colours of our Welsh flag. (Red, White, Green - or a mixture)

    3. Wizardry and Wonders Week - As explained last week, our traditional Monster Ball is scuppered by the pandemic.  However, we will not be beaten, and feel we have come up with an even better plan.  We are planning a week of events and activities to ensure that the pupils do not miss out.  Learning will not stop, but we will focus our topic on the "force of magic and science". Pods will be planning magic tricks, experiments, cooking, art,  literature and numeracy activities linked to the time of year.  If you have any good ideas that could enhance this week for the pupils, please let us know.  Each day a different pod will have use of the marquee for their very own monster's ball.   Here is the plan for the week, but please note there is a change to Pili Pala's day!

Moany Monday: Teachers will launch the week and Pili Pala to dress for a monster's ball

Terrifying Tuesday: Fun activities across the school

Woo ooo ooo Wednesday: Pysgodyn to dress up for a monster's ball

Thriller Thursday: PryCops to dress up for a monster's ball

Freaky Friday: Pengwins to dress up for a monster's ball

    3. School Council Elections October 12th – Every year each pod elect a representative to sit on the school council.  Every child has the opportunity to create a campaign poster, or flipgrid, clearly stating why they should be voted for.  They will also present their ideas of how they will improve the school to their pod before the all important vote.

    Have a fabulous weekend,

    Mrs Caswell
