    Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Attendance now stands at 92.9%

(Up from last week - Well done!)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

Another glorious week at Llanrhidian, we are certainly enjoying the beautiful weather.  School is still important, even this time of the year so please ensure you child is attending the full day and arriving on time.  Teachers take the register at 8.55 and start their lessons straight away.  They cannot speak to parents after 8.55.  Unless attending a medical appointment, please do not ask to collect your child early.  This put us in a very awkward situation and one we have to justify to our education welfare officer.  So please help us by adhering to the school day times.

Can you help? We do have a number of  premises issues that we help with.  These include a new fence for the orchard and removing rotten wood from Pili Pala and Pengwin's yard.  If you are able to help us with expertise, please let us know.    Here are the headlines this week:-

New Nursery Open Afternoon.  Tuesday 27th June 1:30- 3pm.

If you have a child who is due to start in Pod Pili-Pala and would like to attend, please let the office know.  If you know of any other families who may wish to attend, please ask them to contact the school.

sQuid -   As from Monday 5th June, all year 2 pupils will be entitled to universal free school meals.  Please can parents ensure that their squid accounts are clear by this time.  If you have too much credit, please contact sQuid direct to request a refund.

New Dinner Money System -   As from September County have arranged for schools to have a new dinner money system instead of sQuid.  We will send out information regarding this as soon as we receive it.  In the meantime, please can parents ensure that they use up all credits by the end of term (21st July) and cancel any automatic top-ups.

Parent Workshop (all ages) - Resilience; Wednesday 28th June 3:30pm in school. This workshop will be run by Amy Glass, our "In Reach" worker. This workshop will talk about how to support your child develop their resilience skills. Please let the office know if you would like to attend. Pupils can attend Clwb Hwyl.

Gower Cycling Festival Sunday June 25th (morning) @School Field.  All welcome from 9.30 am.   We have been asked to be a "pit stop" again for this traditional event.  White Rock Events have already sponsored us a wonderful football kit and are also sourcing us some free portaloos for our sports day.     We desperately need help to run a BBQ to sell bacon rolls to the riders.  Please let us know if you can help.   We are expecting 600 cyclist to ride past the school so come along to cheer them on!  Hopefully lots will stop for breakfast.  We expect the first of the cyclists to arrive around 9.45 am.

Sports Day June 21st 2pm til 4pm - We are hoping to have another great event like last year.  Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a few hours of community time.  More details to follow. Big thank you to Gower events who are lending us portaloos for the event.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:  Roblox is age rated 7 but users need to be particularly careful with this rating because Roblox is not one game but a constantly evolving library of games.  The most notable content risk to be aware of in Roblox is that it houses a user-generated library of games, so the potential to see inappropriate content is always there. There have been cases of new games being uploaded to the Roblox platform which contain explicit images and content and because the platform is user generated, this content is not always taken down immediately. Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Attendance now stands at 92.5% (Down from last week)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

The pupils are really enjoying our school field with this dry weather.  This year we have really targeted collaboration skills through providing pupils with equipment and activities that promote "working together".  I am thrilled to say that the results are very evident as the pupils are working and playing so productively.  A huge well done to the pupils who are making us very proud.

We still have too many families arriving after 8.55.  This is unsettling for the pupils concerned, their classmates, as well as causing additional work for staff who have to run back and for to the gate.  Registration and lesson start at 8.55.  Please help us to make the most of all the pupils' learning.

We have had a great "Read to Relax" week and the pupils loved the book sale.  Thank you for supporting this!  It makes so much sense to recycle books rather than buy new. Whilst we are all finding money doesn't go quite so far, it is important that we use the school community as a way to support each other.  Re-using school uniform is a great way of helping other families.  Please send in your used uniform, and we will distribute.  Like wise if you ever need any items just email the office.  If we have it we will pass it on to you.  Please be assured that your child can wear non branded polo-shirts and school jumpers which can be purchased from many supermarkets, if you prefer.   Here are the headlines this week:-

Y6 Parent Workshop - (Transition to year 7) Wednesday May 17th 3:30pm in school.  This workshop will be run by Amy Glass, our "In Reach" worker. The workshop will help support parents and pupils through the transition process to comprehensive school.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week - With more than 700 million users worldwide, Telegram is a popular alternative to the likes of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger; indeed, in some countries, it’s overtaken that pair to become the most-used instant messaging app. Telegram’s no stranger to controversy, however, and has occasionally been made unavailable for download in some nations (including the UK). For more information to help you have more informed discussions with your children  please click here.

An exciting day ahead in school before the bank holiday weekend! Hopefully the sun will continue to shine for us. Our whole school topic of 'Green. Green Grass of Home' is now well underway and we hope you enjoyed reading about our exciting term term ahead in the Pod Planning Overviews which were sent out last week.

Here are the headlines this week:-

Caffi Cynefin needs your help! Every Thursday between 9am and 11:30am.

Caffi Cynefin needs your help to keep it running. This wonderful project gives pupils an opportunity in the real world of work, as well offering our community with a warm space to meet up. Our feedback has been amazing, but since opening our toddler group we are not seeing as many customers. How you can help?

    1. Please tell elderly or non-working members of your family about our Caffi
    2. Donate cakes, biscuits etc
    3. If you have a contact with any local care homes spread the word.

It really is a delight to be served by the pupils, but we will rely on donations to make it sustainable and viable. Pupils reflecting on this wonderful learning experience have commented on how much more confident they feel since working in the Caffi.

Y6 Parent Workshop - Transition; Wednesday May 17th 3:30pm in school.

This workshop will be run by Amy Glass, out "in reach" worker. The workshop will help support parents and pupils through the transition process to comprehensive school.

    #LlanReadtoRelax week  9th-12th May 2023

We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting our very own Read to Relax week this term. Throughout the week, all pupils will immerse themselves in a variety of activities linked to our love of reading and imagination. Staff and pupils will all share some of their favourite stories and become their own authors and write their own fairytales.   On Wednesday 10th May 2023 we will have a Llanrhidian 2nd hand book sale to help raise much-needed funds for our school. We are now collecting any good quality children's storybooks for this sale, if you have any books that you would like to donate to our 2nd hand book sale then please send them to school with your child. Books will only be sold on 10th May and all books will be £1.  Finally, on Friday 12th of May we will end our exciting week by having our very own Pyjamarama event. Pupils will be invited to come into school in their pyjamas where they will enjoy some exciting treats and activities.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week - What are video game age restrictions?

Video game age restrictions can help show what content is suitable for your child’s age. You can also use them to set limits on what is available for your child to play.

There are five age categories and eight content categories, set by the PEGI. Please click here or copy and paste this link https://parents.actionforchildren.org.uk/mental-health-wellbeing/online-safety-wellbeing/video-game-age-restrictions/
