    Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Attendance now stands at 92.5% (same as last week)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

We have ended the Spring term with a bang!  Huge well done to our choir and drummers who performed at the Brangwen Hall on Monday.  It really was a memory that will last for many years.

Thank you also for supporting our traditional Easter Eggstravaganza event yesterday, which is a perfect way to end the school term.  Our Caffi staff have never worked so hard, and I am sure you agree that they did an amazing job.  This is such a great example of pupils in the "real world of work" developing life long skills. We raised over £260 in donations yesterday and all funds raised will be used for pupil resources, and to enhance our learning environment.

We will be saying farewell to our marquee this month, and what a way to end its time with our choir and drummers. I am sure you will agree that their performance yesterday was absolutely amazing.  A huge thank you and well done to our three amazing teachers who have pulled this together.

The Summer term is when our wonderful grounds really shine.  Please support us with plants for our planting day (April 18th) so we can, once again, develop our jubilee gardens that we built last year.  We have booked our wild flower seeds to replace our marquee for the next 6 months, which will provide our pupils with a huge learning resource, as well as supporting our local bee population.

Please remember that there is an additional Bank holiday on May 8th for the Coronation of King Charles III.  This will follow the usual bank holiday on May 1st.  (See below for other key calendar dates).  Here are the other headlines this week.

Planting Day Tuesday April 18th  We will be holding our annual planting day. We would be grateful if you could donate any plants, pots or compost ready for this fun event.   We take so much pride in our grounds during the summer term, and with your help we can make it look amazing after the horrid last few months.

Premises Plea We are always looking to make our environment welcoming, interesting and stimulating.  So if you are having a spring clean and have any spare artificial plants, real house plants, interesting ornaments (not too delicate) then please could we have them.  It really makes such a difference to our working spaces.  We are also still in need of good quality board games, packs of cards and puzzles for wet play times.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Great News!!

Our Attendance now stands at 92.4% (slightly up again from last week)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

We are now hurtling towards the end of term and a huge thank you to those who have returned their raffle tickets and have donated to the hampers.  I cannot emphasise enough how each pound helps us.  Our budget for the next financial year means that there is little money available for those extras that we feel our pupils deserve.  So please help us by paying the amser tost fund, breakfast club payments and supporting us with our community events.  Each pod raises money for its own resources, and the pupils have a voice in what they feel they need.

As we are committed to reducing pupil screen time, and improving their collaboration skills, we are looking to purchase more board games and puzzles for wet lunch times.  If you have any good quality items that you do not need or want, we would be most grateful.  Please send them in to your pod.

As austerity is hitting us all, it is so important that we look after what we have.  Pupils are doing brilliantly in terms of "re-setting" their environment and valuing their resources.  Well done everyone!

Just a reminder that school starts at 8.50 and staff must be taking the register by 8.55.  If you arrive later than this (including on Caffi Cynefin day) please ring the buzzer and go through the office as staff cannot leave their classes to come and take your child from you. For your convenience staff are on duty from 8.40.

Statutory school session times dictate the following times.

    Reception to Year 2

    Drop off 8.40 to 8.50

    Pick up 3.20 to 3.30

    Year 3 to Year 6

    Drop off 8.40 to 8.50

    Pick up 3.25 to 3.30

We hope you enjoyed the snow day, what an unexpected treat for our pupils.  It was also a shock for me as I had just returned from Sydney Australia.  We are very fortunate to be able to attend the professional learning that we do, and it really does have an impact upon our school and it's curriculum.  Without new and fresh ideas, our school would not continue to be innovative and forward thinking. You may have heard your child talk about "re-setting" this week.  We have magpied this idea from Australia and it encourages the pupils to set up their learning environment ready for the next pupils.

We are very excited about our Eastereggstravaganza day and are still planning a great event.  See below for details. Please send in your Easter raffle prizes ready for our hampers.  This could be wine, easter eggs, toys, or anything that would be a treat to win.  We will draw the raffle in the last week of term.  We would be very grateful if "easter style" cakes or refreshments could be donated for this event.  If you are able to help selling refreshments or helping in our Caffi, please let us know.     All funds raised will support our pupils.     Here are the other headlines this week.

Parent Workshop Emotional Regulation Wednesday March 15th @ 3.30 in school. This workshop will be run by Amy Glass, our "in reach" worker.  It will address issues of self regulation and how best to support your child.  This will be particularly useful for parents of pupils who are transitioning to year 7.  Please let the office know if you would like to attend.  Pupils can go to our club hwyl.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week - This week as a school we have made extra efforts to help our learners reduce screentime. Screen time is the amount of time that someone spends using a device or computer. The data on screentime suggests that 41% of parents of 12-15s find it hard to control their child’s screen time. This article from the BBC gives parents and carers advice on this issue - https://www.bbc.com/ownit/the-basics/managing-family-screen-time

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Great News!!

Our Attendance now stands at 92.2% (slightly up from last week)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

What a start to this half of the term! A huge DIOLCH YN FAWR from Team Llanrhidian for supporting our Marchnad Dydd Gwyl Dewi on Wednesday. Your support with community events really does make such a difference to our school.  The Marchnad is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to understand the working world and provides a genuine and authentic learning experience.  Our additional Caffi Cynefin was really busy and our pupil team worked professionally and confidently - da iawn, we are really proud of you!  All money raised will go directly to the pods to enhance our learning environment even further - diolch! Pictures from our Marchnad Dydd Gwyl Dewi can be found on our website

St David's Day was a huge success! We enjoyed our whole school Eisteddfod and launched our 'leek week'... what a week! The pupils worked extremely hard on designing their very own dragons and sounded beautiful singing as a whole school, it was a real treat to hear them all singing together. Head over to Twitter to see pictures and videos from the event.

We are looking forward to having Mrs Caswell back with us next week. She has been on a two week "Education Leadership Course" in Sydney.  She will be sharing her work at both a pupil, staff and governor level next week and I know she has lots of great ideas to further improve our school.  We will also be welcoming international visitors from Zambia and New South Wales next term, where we can share our curriculum and good practice.

We are currently looking for some wheelie bins for our outdoor spaces, if anyone can help with this, please let us know. Here are the other headlines this week:-

Parent Support Videos - Our Staff have been working on a bank of videos to help parents support learning at home. Our videos can be found on our school website. This is a new channel that staff will be adding to over time so please bear with us while we add to the content. If you have any ideas for videos that you would like to see on our website, please be in touch!

Amser Tost - A kind reminder that payment for amser tost is due for this half term. We ask for a voluntary donation of £10 per family to help support the school to keep it going. We know that the pupils love amser tost and we have seen big improvements in their energy levels and enjoyment during relax and refuel.  Your support is greatly appreciated, this contribution can be made through your sQuid account.

North Gower Partnership Music Festival March 27th Our Llanrhidian Choir and Drumming Group will be performing in the North Gower Partnership Music Festival at the Brangwyn Hall on the 27th March 2023. This event will start at 6:30pm.  Parents of the pupils involved will be contacted by Mr Goremano and Miss Weatherley.   However, anyone is able to purchase tickets for this event. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased from our school office.  Tickets are £2, under 12s are free.

Easter Eggstravaganza Day March 30th - This day will include our Easter Bonnet Parades, and Caffi Cynefin will be open all day.  We will let you know what time your pods will be parading and keep you informed as we plan this event.  Let's hope for sunshine.   We will be holding an Easter raffle that week and are asking for donations of "Easter Themed Items" for our hampers as prizes.  E.g., an easter egg, bottle of wine, toy etc.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week - This week we are thinking about the controls that we can put on devices to keep our children safe online.  We know that the internet can give us a huge amount of information and services, but this also means that there is inappropriate content out there for our children.  Find more about parental controls by visiting the following website:

    https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/parental-controls/
