Our Attendance now stands at 92.5%

    (Up from last week!)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

A huge congratulations to the PESTs this week, who presented their final evaluations of the school targets to governors.  These year six pupils have been outstanding all year.  They have used their own time to question pupils, staff, gather data and create videos to show the progress across the school.  These pupils can leave us with the confidence that they have left a legacy for future PESTs as well as providing us with new targets.  A huge thank you to all the staff who have worked so hard to improve our school each year.  Our progress was presented to the full governing body this week, and all targets signed off as making at least strong progress.  Thank you to the governors who have supported and challenged us all year.   If you would like to read more about how we plan for improvement, please click here.

Our instagram following is growing by the week, and we are very pleased with the interactions, which are far greater than twitter.  If you wish to follow us on @llanrhidian_primary_school the please request to do so.  We do not accept anyone we do not recognise, so please let us know if you have requested  but we have not accepted.

Please remember that next Friday is a "Non School Uniform, Bring A Raffle Prize" day.  If you have already donated then please do not feel you need to send in again.

Please keep sending in used uniform, PE tops etc  as these are great spares for the pupils as well as being sustainable.  If you are struggling with uniform, (for whatever reason) just let the office know and we will see if we can source some for you.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:   TikTok is a free social media platform that lets users create, share and watch short videos ranging anywhere from 15 seconds to 10 minutes in duration. Ofcom report found TikTok to be the most-used social media platform for posting content, particularly among young people aged 12 to 17. Parents and carers need to be aware of some of the risks of letting their children on Tik Tok unsupervised such as:

    • Age inappropriate content
    • Dangerous challenges
    • Addictive tendencies.
    • Contact with strangers

We hope you enjoyed sports day as much as we did.   Your feedback tells us that we seem to have a formula that everyone loves.  An opening ceremony, younger pupils' races followed by the older ones.  Huge thanks to Jayne and Jane for running the refreshments stall; to all the staff for all their hard work and to all the families who turned up to support us.  Once again the sun shone.  This was my 18th Sports Day at Llanrhidian, and we have never had to call it off due to bad weather.   A huge well done to all the pupils.  Their sportsmanship, resilience and kindness to each other shone through yesterday.  I am so grateful for our volunteers who helped with the stickers, what a brilliant job!

We will be running Caffi Cynefin until the end of term.  We are so glad to say that this will continue next year as it is more than paying for itself.  This is due to the kind donations from our customers.  However, we still stick to our principles that this is a free warm space for anyone who needs it, so please keep spreading the word.  Our pupils are absolutely amazing at running this, and they totally know what they are doing now with very little adult intervention.  This really is a credit to the learners and the "Llanrhidian World of Work".

We are working hard to build up our instagram account and are evaluating how useful this is.  If you follow us please like our posts, reels and stories as it is great feedback for us on whether it is an effective way to share what we do.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:  An estimated one-third of children have a social media account, so it’s important that trusted adults know what content young people are consuming; what they’re posting; and what interactions they’re having. On social media, it can be easy to go down a rabbit hole that isn’t beneficial to our wellbeing. These platforms try and tackle ‘legal but harmful’ content, lives are being impacted – sometimes to tragic effect.  We can still help children to be mindful of their mental wellness: recognising when something isn’t OK … and knowing what to do about content that upsets them.

    Some top tips:

    • Monitor their activity.
    • Use devices together.
    • Remember the age limits for some of these apps
    • Encourage other activities.

What a great end of the year we are having.  We are all looking forward to Sports Day next week and the pupils have all been practising.  Please read the information below so you are aware of the arrangements and do not miss out.   If another family member is attending, please share with them.    We are very aware that this is an expensive time, so please bring a picnic and a blanket.  (I am sorry but we are not allowed dogs on the field).  We will not be selling food, but hot/cold drinks and ice creams will be sold.  Please bring change.

The new Clwb Cierios is really picking up and we have covered our costs in our first week.  Thank you to all those who support this and to our staff who have agreed to run it.  If you want to use this provision please visit our Clwb Ceirios Page and use the booking form.  We do ask for parents to pay half a term in advance to help us with admin time.   A new booking form will be sent out for Autumn term before the end of term.

The pupils are already talking about next year and our pod system eliminates those worries about splitting year groups.  We will be transitioning all pupils into their new pods before the end of term so they will be really comfortable about starting in September.  Additionally all the pod staff will do a welcome video which can be watched anytime to help the pupils look forward to the new term.

You may think that we are winding down, but this time of year is absolutely hectic for primary school staff.  Please help us by making sure your child is in school because we still have learning to complete so they can be ready for their new year.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: This week we will focus on YouTube. It can be a lot of fun, but it’s not a place for children — of any age — to roam alone. You can learn about a lot of things — and how to do a lot of things — on YouTube, but a child has the ability to jump from a harmless video, for example, about birds, to a video with adult content all within a matter of seconds. Please click here for more information

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Attendance now stands at 92.47%

    (Down from last week!)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We are having a wonderful, yet busy end of term.  It really is a great time of year to really see how much progress the pupils have made.  Progress is measured in many ways in Llanrhidian, and not by merely testing.  Observations, discussions, looking at their written, creative and digital work all informs us of where they are and where they need to go next.  As a head teacher I am particularly proud of how well the pupils are progressing with their integral skills.  Teachers skillfully plan opportunities for pupils to develop critical thinking and problem solving; planning and organising; creativity and innovation as well as personal effectiveness.  Some people may regard these as the "softer skills" but in Llanrhidian we recognise these as the skills that lead to a successful life, as well as the skills employers value.

We were saddened to hear that Plantos Prysur needed to withdraw their provision for after school childcare at Llanrhidian Hall, and that we were not in the position to hold it here.  Safeguarding must be a priority for our pupils and this is something we will never compromise upon.  However,  as a response to this situation, we have worked hard to set up our own provision called Clwb Ceirios.    For more information click here.  I promised to keep parents updated with regards it's success.  Currently it is not quite covering costs, but hopefully this will improve.   We need at least 35 bookings per week to keep this viable, and are about 5 short.   We really want this to work, but as you are aware we are not allowed to subsidise it in any way.   Please note that tax free childcare vouchers can be taken in payment, but please check with the office.  Also we do hope to move to online payments in time.   To help us, please could payments be made for the whole half term, as this would greatly reduce admin time.   A big thank you to those parents and governors who have given us really constructive feedback.  Please spread the word, the more pupils that attend the better it is for all concerned.

We are desperately in need of picket fencing, or similar, to replace the existing orchard fence and to develop a nature reserve.  If you know anyone who can help with this, please let us know.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:  This week we will be focusing on Instagram which is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, with over 1 billion users worldwide. The platform allows users to upload images and videos to their feed, create interactive ‘stories’, share live videos, exchange private messages or search, explore and follow other accounts they like – whilst at the same time continuously updating and adding new features to meet the needs of its users.

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as addiction, unrealistic ideals and the influencer culture. Please click here or see the attachment.
