We're excited to announce that our field is now officially open for all our pupils to enjoy! It's such a joy to see them playing and learning outdoors. We're also hoping to create a special 'nature reserve' in our school grounds and would love some parent volunteers to help out. If you're interested, please get in touch with Mrs. Parry through the school office. This week, our focus is on our beautiful school grounds in 'Qwestiwn yr Wythnos'. Take a look below to see what the pupils think, and feel free to share your own thoughts too by clicking the link below!

Exciting news! Caffi Cynefin is now featuring... 'Flash Mob Choir!'. If you have a birthday to celebrate or would like to surprise somebody you know with a special performance, be in touch and let us know! Please note, the choir will not perform in every Caffi but are available for special occasions which will provide our pupils with another chance to perform to a live audience as well as provide a treat for our community! One lovely customer left the following feedback this week and we are thrilled... "Lovely service from pupils. I was extremely lucky to be there when the choir came on. What a treat! This made my day."

A huge diolch yn fawr for supporting our #Read2Relax week, the pupil have supported planting more trees to encourage sustainability, swapped books and this afternoon will be sharing a story with different pods over a hot chocolate!

Please note, there is a new date for the diary below. Our class photographs will be taken on June 21st by the wonderful Roz and Kirsty!

What's the buzz from the pupils this week? "Cwestiwn yr Wythnos!" We ask pupils a weekly question in order to feed into our school improvement. Parents and carers can have a say by clicking here. "What do you love about the summer term?"

Pod Pengwin: "I love gardening and planting new things. I like playing outside games like tag, freeze and stuck in the mud. I feel happy when the sun is shining!"

Pod Pysgodyn: "I like it when we have ice-cream. I love going on the field because you can run around, we play hide and seek in the wild area and cat and mouse. We go outside to do learning too which is fun!"

Pod PryCop: "I love that we can go on the field, we do lots of gymnastics together. I like it when we make things like bug hotels and last term, we made a shelter with a teacher from Zambia. It was brilliant".

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: Encourage your child to use child-friendly internet searches.

With the ever-increasing amount of material available on the internet, such as websites, images, and videos, it is crucial to search carefully. This guide will help parents and carers assist children in searching safely. Most children use search engines to find things on the Internet. Research has found that search providers’ sites are the most visited among the majority of children and young people. While search engines have incredible benefits, such as helping with school assignments, there is also a risk of children being exposed to potentially harmful or even illegal material. In school, we encourage children to use safe search engines like Swiggle or Kiddle. For more information, please click here.

What's the buzz from the pupils this week?  Cwestiwn yr Wythnos! We ask pupils a weekly question in order to feed into our school improvement. Parents and carers can have a say by clicking here. "How have your maths skills improved this year?"

Pod Pengwin: "I like to do maths in the pod, like 5 + 5 = 10. We like to do maths outside. When I had an eye test, I had to read numbers and I knew what they were."

Pod Pysgodyn: "I am a lot better at times tables and dividing. I am good at my 9 and 10s. I use my problem solving skills to use the bus stop method."

Pod PryCop: "I think they have improved because my presentation is better and I get less distracted. I am very good at angles and they have got better since Pysgodyn."

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:  (TikTok's approach to age limits is covered in the UK by the children's code, which is designed to protect children's data online. The code states that processing the personal data of a child is lawful if they are at least 13 years old. Below that age, parental consent is needed for processing of a child's data.)  How to make TikTok safer.   Using any social network can be risky, but it's possible for children to safely use the app with strict adult supervision (and a private account). TikTok also offers some tools for parents and caregivers to further limit how much time kids spend on the app and what they can see. Parents and carers can also use Restricted Mode to reduce mature content, or Family Safety Mode to pair their account with their kid's account and control settings completely. For more information, please click here.

Another busy week here in Llanrhidian! The summer term is such a wonderful time of year, where you can fully appreciate all the hard work that pupils and staff have put in towards our school development targets. We have really focused on authentic learning experiences through Llanrhidian's World of Work, our Caffi Cynefin and of course our new Caffi Oriel. Thank you for being part of our learning community, it makes such a difference to our learners.

If you have not visited our Caffi and Oriel Cynefin, we are open every term time Thursday, come rain or shine between 9am and 11:30am. If you know anyone that would benefit from having a chat with a piece of cake and a cuppa, please bring them along! Check out our new Oriel Cynefin page, by clicking here. The Caffi is also where our school bank meet weekly, if your child would like to join our school savers, please let their pod teacher know.

To support our outdoor learning, we are looking for a few bits and bobs. If anyone is able to help out, please let us know. As ever, we are very grateful for your support:

    - Piece of artificial grass; 1m by 1m

    - Wood slices/planks of wood

    - Scraps of outdoor ply

Unforgettable Night Out in Gower -  Prepare for a sensational evening as we introduce the North Gower Knees Up event happening in a mere 3 weeks! Come and be a part of an enchanting night filled with entertainment, tempting prizes, all while showing your support for our wonderful pupils. The funds collected will be put towards constructing a pupil kitchen, nurturing gastronomic abilities, and enhancing community bonds.  The lively tunes of the Nimble Limbs band will set the mood with their electrifying live music performance. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to our devoted parents for procuring exceptional items for the auction and raffle.

For those who have not yet paid for their tickets, we kindly ask that payments be made at your earliest convenience. You can settle the payment in cash to Mrs. Gosney or conveniently purchase your ticket online by clicking here.   We are incredibly fortunate to have received generous donations of raffle prizes from some fantastic local companies. If you're unable to attend the event but would still like to support our cause, keep an eye out for a raffle ticket in your child's bag.   Additional North Gower Knees Up raffle tickets can be purchased through the office for £5 - just let us know and we will send them home with your child. Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase at the event.  In addition to the raffle, we have some exciting fundraising activities planned for the night. Don't forget to bring along some cash to participate and help us raise funds for our school!

#ReadtoRelax week - We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting our annual Read to Relax week this term.  We will be encouraging pupils to take time out of their day to relax and unwind with a good book. Please see the agenda for the week below:

Tuesday 14th May - we will hold a school tree sale. All trees will be £1 and these donations will go to Pod funds.

Wednesday 15th May - we will host a whole school book swap. If your child would like to participate in the book swap then they can bring a book in on this day.

Friday 17th May - we will end our exciting week by having our very own Pyjamarama event. Pupils will be invited to come into school in their pyjamas where they will enjoy some exciting treats and activities. Let's get lost in a good book and relax together!

What's the buzz from the pupils this week?  We asked one pupil from each pod... "How has your writing improved this year?"

Pod Pengwin: "My favourite is my story about a pizza and at the end, he gets a potion and can turn everyone really small. My writing is better because I know more letters and know more words."

Pod Pysgodyn: "Well, I do think it has improved because ever since I started Pysgodyn, I have been practising my handwriting and it is getting better and better. Sometimes we do a 3,2,1 and have to add new adjectives like 'amazing' or 'fantastic'. My favourite piece of writing was writing a thank you letter after we read a book about France."

Pod PryCop: "This year, LUA and ACE's have helped my writing because, you can do a quick write and then go over it and look for mistakes or create another paragraph. When you evaluate your writing, you look at how good your final piece is. My favourite piece of writing this year has been my persuasive piece about why the Olympics should be hosted in Wales. I liked it because I got to use new sentences like 'I implore you to...'.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:   Help your child understand the risks of online gaming. An Ofcom survey conducted in 2023 found that around 9 in 10 children aged 3-17 play games online. 25% of children aged 8-17 play games online with strangers, and 22% chat with unknown individuals while gaming. Parents should understand and support their child's interest in online gaming while also helping them avoid negative aspects such as playing games with inappropriate age ratings or references to gambling. For more information please click here.
