    Dear Parents and Carers,

     Great News!

Our Attendance now stands at 91.6% (slightly up from last week)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

As we head into half term, it is a time to reflect how far we have come in twelve months.   With our community events back up and running; the Curriculum for Wales firmly embedded and all the improvements to our school grounds and building, it really does feel like a positive school year.   And it is far from over.  Straight after the half term break we have our "Leek Week" and St David's Day celebrations.  (See below for important information),  and of course we are planning our end of term Easter Eggstravaganza Event.  Thank you all for making this  fabulous school such a special place.

Our pupils are developing their integral skills in Caffi Cynefin - this week was the busiest ever.  Thank you again for all your support.  If you can ever help out with dishes etc, please let us know.

You should have received an email regarding the industrial action on March 2nd.  Please ensure you have this information, and we will keep you updated of any further developments.   Sadly this means there will be no Caffi Cynefin this week. Here are the headlines this week:-

Marchnad Dydd Gwyl Dewi Wednesday March 1st We will be holding our St David's Day Celebrations of March 1st.   Please send your child into school in a Welsh costume or red clothes. eg rugby top.  It would be wonderful if they were all wearing a leek or a daffodil.  Please also send in the following:-

    • A Leek - all week will be "leek week" and we will be doing lots of learning through leeks! Please help us by sending in a leek with your child's name on it before Wednesday.   As always there will be a heaviest leek competition on St David's Day.
    • Something Welsh to sell on your  Pod's Welsh stall - all funds will go to the pod fund for fun equipment.
    • Money to spend in the marchnad please ensure this is in a purse with their name on.  We advise no more than £2.

If you want to collect your child at 2pm please go to the usual place you collect your child.  We will open the gate by the bus bay at 1.55pm.  (Other gates will remain locked)  If you arrive later than 2pm, speak to a member of staff at the market and we will let the pod know you are heading their way to collect.  Please be patient as our main priority is always safeguarding.  If you do collect your child, please supervise their behaviour at all times.  If you are unable to attend the marchnad, please let the pod staff know and we will ensure they visit the stalls before the end of the school day.

Caffi Cynefin will be open to sell teas, coffees and welsh cakes in our wonderful bone china cups.  If you could donate any cakes for this event we would be very grateful.  We will also be selling take out teas, coffees and cold drinks.

Please note there will be no Clwb Hwyl on this day. (Wednesday March 1st).

Punctuality - School officially starts at 8.50 and registers close at 8.55.  This means our teachers should be in front of their pupils at 8.55 latest.  This is monitored by the local authority, so please help us to ensure your child gets the very best start to their school day. For your convenience our staff make themselves available from 8.40 so you can drop off from this time.

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week - This week we will be talking about online games. Although enjoyable and can provide laughter and enjoyment, parents need to be aware of some of the risks of online games. Dear Parents and Carers,

    Great News!

Our Attendance now stands at 91.69% (up slightly from last week)

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

It really is beginning to feel like Spring this week in Llanrhidian, and our focus will soon be on developing our outdoors.  Some pods have already started planting and tidying up their areas.  We are in need of changing our storage sheds, so if you know of anyone who can help with this, please let us know.

The planned strike action for February 14th has now been postponed until March 2ns.  However, we will keep you informed of any updates.  (Although Wales on Line usually beats us to it!)

We are currently running breakfast club at a loss and the school is not authorised to fund this from the delegated budget. If you use this service before 8.25am you must make a payment of £20 per half term.  We will be reviewing the cost for this provision with governors. Obviously, the more parents that pay, the less needs to be charged per child.  We have always endeavoured to keep this as low as possible.

We are delighted to announce that Ms Vikki Rogers will be joining our governing body, and also that Mrs Marion Jenkins will remain as parent governor.

Please note that due to Parents' Evening on Wednesday 15th February, there will be no sports club.   Here are the other headlines this week:-

Marchnad Dydd Gwyl Dewi March 1st - We are planning for a St David's day market on the afternoon of March 1st.  Please can pupils arrive in school dressed in Welsh costumes or red tops ready for our celebration morning assembly.  In the afternoon, from 2pm, we will hold a market in the marquee.  If you are able to attend, you are welcome to collect your child to visit the stalls.  If not you can send your child in with some money to spend.    Each pod will be having their own stall and will be letting you know how you can help.  Please spread the word if you know of any stall holders who would like to set up and sell their wares.  Please click here for more information.

Easter Eggstravaganza Day March 30th - We will be having a lovely day including Easter Bonnet Parades, and Caffi Cynefin will be open all day.  We will let you know what time your pods will be parading and keep you informed as we plan this event.  Let's hope for sunshine.   We will be holding an easter raffle that week and are asking for donations of "Easter Themed Items" for our hampers as prizes.  Eg an easter egg, bottle of wine, Toy etc.

    Swansea Target 95%

    Llanrhidian Target 96%

We have had a fabulous "I wonder week" with a number of visitors sharing their beliefs with the pupils.  As a result, pupils have learnt that the world is diverse, everyone is different, yet we can be tolerant and kind.

Other visitors this week have been far less welcome. These include headlice.  Before this becomes a major issue we are asking all parents to tie their child's long hair back.  Here are the other headlines this week:-

Parent Evening - You should have now received an invite for parents' evening.  Please contact the office if you have had any trouble with this.   We are looking forward to showing you your child's progress.

How much screen time is too much? - Balancing screen time has become an important consideration to ensure that children and young people use technology in a positive and healthy way.  Screen time, when managed correctly, can be educational, informative, and a great way for children to staying in touch with friends and family. It only becomes an issue if children and young people become dependent on it and it starts affecting other things in their life.  Too much screen time can affect children’s behaviour, sleep and concentration. It can also lead to less physical activity and social interaction.  Please click the link for more information  and then click launch https://hwb.gov.wales/repository/resource/3f69677a-1e5d-4c13-9f28-21ad61812ba5
