However, 36% of parents confess that they do not know where to seek help or resources on online safety, despite discussing their children's online activities on a regular basis (77%). To initiate a conversation on online safety, you can either click on the link here or take this quiz to provide you with a platform for discussion.

Full steam ahead at Llanrhidian.  We seem to be like the proverbial swan, looking calm on the surface but paddling like mad underneath.  However, we would not have it any other way as the staff love this time of year.  Thank you to all those parents who are helping us by volunteering for our Marchnad Nadolig, if you are able to help out please let us know.  We are now going to start earlier, from 2pm, so we can fit in all the Santa visits.  However, please come along when it suits you.

Governors met this week to discuss the financial situation of the Early Bird Craft Club.  We are currently making a significant loss each term.  We find that our only option will be to increase the cost of this provision to meet the staffing costs. From January the cost of the club will be £30 per half term. (£20 per sibling).  This still equates to less than £1 per session.  To keep this provision going, please use it!

Please note new diary date for "Christmas Jumper & Dinner Day" is Thursday 21st December  2023.

On Wednesday we had our 18th Monster Ball, and I have to say that every year it has got better and better.  Thank you so much for supporting this "fun filled" event.  We raised invaluable funds, but I can assure you its purpose is about ensuring all out pupils have a special traditional event that brings our whole school community together.    Thank you for making such an effort with costumes, and thank you to our amazing volunteers who made our marquee so special.  We really do not know what we would do without it!

It will be the Christmas Fayre next month, and if you can help out with donations of cakes, treat or can help us set up please let us know.  We would also appreciate some help to run a refreshment stall if you are able, as it did get a little hectic (in a good way) last night.

As you know we hold a free Santa's grotto and will make sure every pupil receives a small gift from the big man himself.   Once again a huge thank you to Andrew Hole from Oldwalls who will be sponsoring us by providing the gifts.  We have listened to you and will be attempting a booking system this year, we will send you details after half term.

Thank you for an amazing Autumn 1 - we hope you have enjoyed it as much as us.  The staff here really do go above and beyond.  This is a very special school with committed staff, amazing pupils, supportive governors, and wonderful parents!  Thank you for being part of #TeamLlanrhidian!

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week: We know how important it is to keep children safe online. That's why Hwb have made helpful guides, giving you a detailed overview of apps and games, including their age rating and key terminology. They also point out any potential risks that each app may pose and provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to enable parental controls and safety settings. The guides can help start conversations with your kids about sensitive issues.  Please click here for the guides.

It was great to see so many of you at the school "open evening" this week.  Thank you so much for attending.  I loved to see the pupils being so proud of their achievements and sharing these with you.  We hope you liked their books and saw the vibrant and creative way in which your children are presenting their work.  Every learner is different, and because of this, no two books are the same.  We are so proud of them.

Your feedback via the questionnaire has been invaluable, and although we love to hear all the positive thoughts (and thank you for those, they really do give the staff a boost) we also discuss all the comments made that could improve the school. And whilst we can never please everyone, we really do try our best to deliver an innovative and progressive curriculum that prepares your child for life.

One common thread was more school trips.  We will certainly do our very best to increase this but our dilemma is always asking parents for more money.  Whilst some parents want more, there are always some who want less, so we endeavour to strike a balance.

If you were unable to attend but would like to complete the questionnaire please click here.  It will remain open until the 27th October.

Our first marchnad of the year went brilliantly! Thank you all so much for supporting, this traditional event is so special to us all.  These events are what our pupils remember, and in the words of one little pengwin "I love harvest its the best day ever!"

Thank you for supporting Clwb Ceirios and Early Bird Craft Club.  As you know these have to generate enough income to cover the costs, so your contribution really does keep these going.  Please make sure you always pay the half term before.  sQuid is available and we will also accept cash or cheques.  Again, it great when you make suggestions to improve our systems so just let us know.

Next week we will sadly be saying 'Hwyl Fawr a Pob Lwc' to Mrs Newington. Mrs Newington has been an extremely important part of Team Llanrhidian but we are excited for her to start new  adventures in Brunei. All of Team Llanrhidian would like to use this opportunity to say good luck and thank you for everything you have done here. You will certainly be missed by us all.

Shwmae! A huge diolch yn fawr to our families who use our  "drop off" zone in the mornings. Our health and safety inspection went very well. They felt our drop off was well managed by staff and parents. Diolch a da iawn to all those that support keeping our pupils safe at drop off and pick up. One recommendation is that, where possible, pupils are to get out of cars on the pavement side of the car, especially so close to the busy road. Diolch pawb!

Next week is a very exciting week! We have our 'Marchnad Harvest' on Thursday 19th of October and our Caffi will be open all day. Please join us for a cuppa and something to eat. We are really seeing our pupils grow in confidence and gain real life skills through this experience. Any donations of cakes for the caffi would be wonderful as we're hoping that we will be nice and busy! Our extended caffi does mean that next Thursday afternoon we will not be running our usual 'Plant Bach Llanrhidian'. However, all of our families are welcome to join us in the caffi, we'd love to see you all. If you have any home grown, homemade or organic goods to donate to your pod, we will be very grateful and will include these on our pod stalls. We will also be collecting for our good friends in Matthew's House. Any donations can be brought in before the marchnad or on the day. It is also not too late to sign up for a table top stall, the more the merrier! Just contact the school office if you would like to join us. We will open our school gates at 1:30pm. If you would like to collect your child early to visit the marchnad together then please see a member of staff outside your usual pick up place, (outside their pod). Any pupils who are not able to be collected, will visit the marchnad with a member of staff. Please also remember this is a cash only event so bring lots of change!

We will also be joined by a teacher from Zambia next week! Martin will be working with pupils from Pod Pry Cop to think about our how we can reduce and reuse plastic. We will make sure to keep you updated with lots of pictures on our instagram page.

Also happening next week is our Pod Open Evening. This is on Wednesday October 18th from 3.15 until 5.30pm. Please note, there will not be clwb hwyl on this evening. We are very excited to invite you to look around the pod with your child. We will be encouraging the children to talk about their learning, show you the resources (including digital) and give you a tour of their workshops. There will be an opportunity to chat to the teachers but this will be informal within the evening. We will also be asking you to complete an online survey during your visit. We look forward to seeing you!

Thank you to everyone who uses our "drop off zone" I know it really helps with parking and time keeping.  Next week we have a Health & Safety Inspection from the local authority, and traffic control will be part of this.  I hope we can show them how well and safe we run it so just remember to switch off your engines; let the pupils get out of the vehicle "school side" if possible and do not attempt to move if there are any pupils walking past.

We are preparing for our Marchnad Harvest in all pods (See more information below).  We are also collecting

for our good friends at Matthew's House.  Matthew's House are in need of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and warm clothing items (hats, gloves, socks, etc). Our harvest collection is open already and children can start bringing in any of these items when they would like.  Alternatively, we will be holding a Matthew's House 'drop off' point in our Marchnard Harvest. If you pop along to our Marchnard, please bring with you a spare tin or non-perishable item to add to our donations.

Next week, we are really excited to be welcoming Martin, a teacher from Zambia! Martin will be working with the pupils in Pod Pry Cop, thinking about how to reduce single use plastic. Martin will be with us for a week and we are looking forward to showing him our wonderful school.

Our Early Bird Craft Club is unfortunately making a significant loss.   For more information click here.   It is a very cheap form of morning childcare, but we are at risk of losing it due to it not generating enough money.  We will be discussing this in governors later in the term, so if you are able to support us to keep it going, then please complete this form.

Remember to share this blog with members of your family so they can enjoy our community events too.  For example our Caffi Cynefin is still open every Thursday and our pupils need customers to develop their "World of Work" skills.

Every learner in our school looks forward to their piece of toast in the morning.  "Amser Tost" really does boost them, enabling them to concentrate and make the best out of their school morning.  However, to keep this going we really do rely on parent contributions of £10 per family per half term.  Please help us to keep this wonderful homely touch going for our pupils.  You can pay via sQuid (a request has been sent) or send in the money in an envelope clearly marked.

The end of another busy but fabulous week here in Llanrhdian! The children have settled into their new pods fantastically and are really enjoying the 'True Colours' topic. You should have by now received the Pod Project Overview (PPO), which will give you an idea of some of the brilliant learning that will take place over the next few months. September is a great time to think about what we would like to get out of the term ahead and the pupils have already started giving ideas of what they would like to learn and how we can improve our school. Our 'School Council' elections are about to take place and all pupil voice groups will be announced very soon. What the pupils say really does impact our school hugely and we really value their input; ensuring we are all 'the best we can be!'

It is wonderful to see all pupils wearing school uniform every day. It really does make us feel like one big team. Please can you make sure that all uniform and other belongings; coats, bags etc are labelled with your child's name so that we can ensure it all goes home to the right place. One of the best feelings as a teacher in Llanrhidian is in a whole school assembly looking out at the sea of blue.

The Welsh Government has provided a brief description of each app, along with tips to help keep your child safe online. You can access the guides by clicking on the link provided here. These guides can also help parents and caregivers navigate difficult conversations with their children about sensitive online issues.

Our topic of "True Colours" is now well underway.  You will soon receive your child's Pod Project Overview which outlines just some of the learning that has been planned this term.  However, in order to ensure our pupils make the most progress, a lot of our planning responds to what our learners need.  This ensures that if staff identify an area that needs support, we plan for it straight away.

Our Clwb Ceirios is very well attended which is brilliant news.  We will soon be asking for bookings for Autumn 2.  However, having to chase payments is taking office staff away from core business, so please help us by paying up front as agreed.   To find out more please visit the Clwb Ceirios Web Page

Autumn term is a very busy one! Please remember we have a website calendar to help you plan the term ahead.  If you notice anything missing, or a wrong date, please let us know.  As a small staff our individual workload is huge, so extra eyes on such things are a great help to us.

Here are the headlines for this week:

Community Event "Marchnad Harvest"  - Thursday 19th October @1.30 - 3.25:  We will be exposing our pupils to the world of business and work by holding a community harvest market in our marquee.  We hope to have a number of local stall holders attending, so if you know anyone interested in a free stall please share and ask them to get in touch.  Likewise if you have had a clear out and want to have a table top sale, just let us know.      In addition, each pod will be promoting and running their own stalls to sell something homegrown, homemade or free trade.  We hope you can support your pod with donations.   Each pod will send out more details soon.   The marchnad will run from 1.30 til the end of the school day.  If you do visit the market and wish to collect your child early to attend with you, we will accommodate.  Just let a staff member know and we will bring your child to you.   Caffi Cynefin will also be open for refreshments and we would be very grateful for cake donations for this day.    Please bring your own bags.  This will be a cash only event and please bring plenty of change.

Monster Ball - Wednesday 25th October (No Clwb Hwyl) @4.30 til 6:  There will be a disco in the marquee (run by Mr G); refreshments (hot  dogs and cakes); fancy dress (pupils and adults) and lots of fun! Please let us know if you can help decorate the marquee!  (Our volunteers last year were amazing!)  If you can support the event with donations of cakes or treats to sell, we would be most grateful.  Weather permitting - this will be an outside event.

Mrs Archard's Pattwrm yr Wythnos - Here are the Welsh patterns of the week.  Please help you child by practising at home. Ble wyt ti'n bwy?  Dw i'n bwy yn Llanrhidian rhwng Penclawdd a Llangennith. I live in Llanrhidian between Penclawdd and Llangennith.

    Frill Hwyl - Rhwng! Between!

Mr G's Internet Safety Tip of the Week:  The most important thing we can do as parents and caregivers is to be aware of our children's online decisions and to have conversations with them about it. Here are a set of great conversation starters-  please click here
